Did you know that some mummies have glass eyes, and some have wings? And that there are cat mummies and bird mummies? And that some people ate powdered mummy? This book has a lot of amazing mummy facts!
We're learning about ancient Egypt in History for my kids and they love this book! Easy to understand with neat pictures, it's a great addition to any lesson surrounding this subject.
I don’t get how people call each other “king” or “queen” as a compliment. Kings & queens are straight assholes. The Egyptian kings (substitute U.S. oligarchy) were so fucking greedy they had their bodies embalmed with all kinds of jewels, furniture, riches, and shit. Of course the slaves that took 20 back- breaking years, paid by lukewarm beer, stole that shit. And then rich white people stole it to make money in museums. The VIP afterlife party sounds trash. I’d be into the Kemant & African yoga, eyeliner, and walking like an Egyptian though-
I thought this book was cool. It told us how they made mummies and about the Egyptian afterlife. I liked the pictures in the book. I read it all by myself. -C, age 6
This was an assigned book with the K12 first grade History curriculum.
A young reader's perfect introduction to mummies! Using simple, easy-to-read sentences, the author explains what mummies are, from preparation to final resting place, be it pyramid or underground tomb.
Quite fascinating, really. There are even some people who had their pets mummified! Say what?
Some information on pyramids, as well as the rituals involving the preparation of a mummy can also be found in this book. For example, we learn that it took 100,000 workers slaves 20 years to build the biggest pyramid!
This is an informative book about mummies, perfect for grades 1-3. It has a short, but pretty comprehensive narrative and lots of colorful illustrations that could inspire any young artist to make a diorama or create egyptian figures from paper. The inclusion of actual photographs also help to explain and make the subject more real. We enjoyed reading this book together and I am sure our girls will look for more books on this topic at our local library.
This was the second book my 4th grade 2010-2011 In2Books reading penpal chose for us to read. You can learn more about becoming an In2Books volunteer here: In2Books. :)

My first grade son read this book for a part of his History lesson. He finds mummies to be a bit icky/scary and a bit intriguing/funny. And that is exactly how he found this book to be.
