This is another nonfiction book in the Step Into reading series. It contains enough facts to engage a curious beginning reader. I find it has enough material to be interesting up to about age 8, especially for English language earners and struggling readers. It is gratifying to hear a struggling student formulating their own questions about whether bears' fur protects them from bees, for instance.
This is a nice, fairly easy to read nonfiction book on bears. It follows a family of black bears for the first part of the book and then spends a few pages each on both brown bears and polar bears. The illustrations are detailed and realistic and the page detailing a bear's diet pairs up the illustration of each item with the appropriate text for the most part, providing helpful visual clues for beginning readers.
