A wonderful reference for people whose eyes usually glaze over at the very mention of history, this volume synthesizes in easy-to-understand one- and two-page spreads the key eras, civilizations, movements, conflicts, and personalities that make up the human experience. A rich array of detailed full-color photographs, drawings, and reconstructions re-create the concerns of daily life, from costume to art and architecture, customs to emerging philosophies. Two time-line styles are used--one pinpointing key dates within the subject spread, and another locating subjects on a time bar along the top of the page. 9 1/2" x 13". Color illus.
