After reading "Maria, ihm schmeckt's nicht", I was so excited to continue the history of Antonio Marcipane that I went immediately to the Library in order to pick up this book. It is quite different in comparison to the first one, overall in the first part where Jan Weiler seems to prefer a storyline which brings to think rather than to relax yourself. In this first part he shows the problem of integration that Antonio and his family had to face in Germany. Luckily, some funny episodes make this part easy to read. The second part is dedicated to the fulfilment of Antonio's biggest dream: a trip to America. Once again, I can tell you how well Jan Weiler can describe the character of an Italian abroad. For example, the fact to think that each waiter could be Italian, it is also sometime in my mind, but I don't ask as Antonio does ;). The second part is for sure easier to read and the sympathy of the couple Antonio-Jan, with a special guest this time, allow you to read the book so fast that you would like to restart again once you finished.

Jan Weiler describes to live with an Italian father-in-law. The book ist funny, but not really realistic for me.

Pleasant, funny reading. At times able to truly point out the contradictions and struggles of emigration and cultural clashes, at times a bit shallow.

A very enjoyable sequel to Maria, ihm schmeckt's nicht!. More adventures of the narrator and his Italian family-in-law, again focused on the patriarch Antonio. This time, the narrator, Antonio and his wonderful friend Benno travel to America - Antonio's wonderland. The adventures are fun, sometimes bordering hilarious, and the best part, which really had me in stitches, was meeting Robert de Niro and the consequences of said encounter. Fantastic. I also loved the part of the Italians visiting the Oktoberfest in Munich, very funny.

The Reader: Again, author Jan Weiler reads wonderfully, especially the Italian accents. However, what really made this reading GRAND was Christian Brücker, who dubs Robert de Niro in German, reading de Niro's parts in this book. This was so perfect and makes this book rather a must-listen than must-read.

Sehr lesenswert! ✨📖

This book was simply hilarious! Like in Jan Weiler's first book, "Maria, ihm schmeckt's nicht", he writes about his life with his Italian wife and her family, how life is with them, especially with his father-in-law, who kind of lives in his own little world.

Besides annual trips to Italy where we meet the whole family Marcipane, the father-in-law, Antonio, now wants to make his biggest dream come true - a trip to New York! And of course, he needs company!

Even though Antonio seems a bit crazy, you really like him, and speaking for myself, I often had to wipe away tears of laughter.

Very whitty. Makes you look at the American culture through the eyes of a European.
Extremely eloquently written, well spoken author. Lesson of this book: yes, live a little. Sometimes ignorance can be bliss and fun at the same time.

Sequel that unfortunately couldn't live up to the first book. Details that I liked in the first one seemed ludicrous and silly here.

I read this book without knowing it was a sequel. It did not really matter though.

The book is really funny and though Antonio is exasperating at times, I could not help but find him endearing.

Gelungene Fortsetzung von
Maria, ihm schmeckte nicht
und potentieller Vorläufer von
