I don´t have this exact edition - I have the one that looks a bit more modern, with a pinkish cover, but I can only recommend it to anyone with any interest in pre-history, the Greeks, the Romans or the battles and movements of the ancient world. Clear and conscise, accompanied by a breif but informative text, this is a perfect companion or reference work if you like reading history but want to check some details of what went on (great for ancient place names, too). Text is small, though, so glasses on if, like me, you´re the wrong side of 40.

I would give this book a star for every page if I could. I can't even imagine how hard the authors and illustrators worked to make so much information so easy to use and understand. I read it little by little each night before I went to sleep. And the proof of the pudding is, I can't wait to start volume two.

A great reference book filled with maps of how the world looked, politically, throughout history. A great companion when you are reading anything historical.

This is really an excellent Atlas of World History. It's packed with information and has clear and informative maps and diagrams. The only reason that I give it four stars instead of five is my copy is old (from the 80s) and I don't know if it has been updated to keep pace with new developments in historical understanding and because it is the size of a Penguin paperback and this kind of book should be much bigger.

However the approach is exactly the right one for an Atlas of World History and it is very professional and informative.

Any time I read a history book (one of my favorite genres) I have this with me. It gives me a quick look at relevant maps and events of the period. Indispensable for my reading.

This little book is an indispensable aide to anyone with an interest in history. I keep it close when I read books (fiction and non-fiction) set in any historical period that I want more background information on.
