Let's Read Math: Funbook 1 Teacher's Guide

Rate this book
This is the teacher s guide for Let s Read Funbook 1 . It is designed for teachers in the broadest sense of the word including parents, teachers, and adults who work with children in after school centers, day camps, family centers, and other locations. In the introduction to the teacher s guide there are rudimentary suggestions about how to use Let s Read Math in schools, and in various out-of-school settings. Occasionally the teacher guides are used by upper elementary, middle school, or high school students who are mentoring children in younger grades. The guides are simple and easy to use, without excessive detail. Let s Read Math is about combining reading with math. The idea is to read a children s book, then do related math activities. Each Funbook has lessons related to 16 different children s books. The lessons cover a wide variety of standards-based math topics. There are two workbook pages devoted to each children s book. The teacher s guide shows miniatures of these two pages, with the answers written in. There is a summary of the story book, and a listing of the related math topics. Then, for each of the two pages, there is a short description about what to do. As needed, a few key math concepts are reviewed, and ideas are offered for simplifying or enriching the lesson. (The Funbook is designed for grades K-4, and adaptations may be necessary to accommodate the age span.) The 16 lessons described in the Let s Read Funbook 1 Teacher s Guide are related to the 16 children s books featured in Funbook 1: Alexander Who Used to Be Rich Last Sunday, Amelia Bedelia, Bart s Amazing Charts, The Button Box, Eight Hands Round, Game Time!, Grandfather Tang s Story, The Greedy Triangle, The Grouchy Ladybug, How Big is a Foot?, The King s Commissioners, Math-terpieces, Pigs Will Be Pigs, A Remainder of One, Sam Johnson and the Blue Ribbon Quilt, and Sea Squares. Most of the children s books are available through Amazon.com.
