Many books have been written by famous personalities in the theatre about their lives and work. However this is probably one of the first memoirs by someone who has spent his entire career behind scenes, and not in front of the footlights. As a lighting designer and as consultant to designers and directors, Michael Northen worked through an exciting period of fifty years of theatrical history from the late nineteen thirties in theatres in the UK and abroad, and on productions ranging from Shakespeare, opera and ballet to straight plays, pantomimes and cabaret. This is not a complicated technical text book, but is intended to give an insight into some of the 300 productions in which he had been involved and some of the directors, the designers and backstage staff he have worked with, viewed from a new angle.
This book is okay, the introduction is quite boring however when got in to the book it was good. I liked the part where she discovers secrets about her uncle's friends and how they are plotting to kill him. Lyra who is the main character is a very exciting and very naughty. Thats why I liked the book very much because it speaks out to me very much.
At times it gets a bit boring but a great way to end the book and to start the rest of the series. Wouldn't read it straight after but I would again in my lifetime.
