Young Jasmine wants a friend more than anything. When the son of a king comes to visit, Jasmine is excited to finally have someone to play with. But she soon realises that not all royals think alike. How can she find a true friend if she's not allowed to leave the palace grounds?
Adorable Disney book. A great chapter book with a simple story about Jasmine just wanting to have fun and adventure. It goes a bit into how Jasmine started to become a bit more adventurous and independent at an early age, and her desire to see the world outside the palace walls.
Jasmine is bored being alone never aloud to leave the palace and having no one to ever play with, when her father is sent a chess set the two learn how to play together and she becomes excellent at it and uses the game to ask for a friend.
This was interesting I loved getting to see a younger jasmine stuck in the life she had, showing her lack of freedom and how much she longed for company and adventure. She had a lot of learning and adjusting to do within the story. I really like seeing stories of what the princesses would be like as children and how similar or dissimilar they are to what we know them as.
It was interesting seeing how she struggled to connect with her new friend at first having them not be exactly what she was expecting but not ever giving up as it meant so much to her to have a friend.
It was cute and I enjoyed reading the story, it was easy to read and I always love looking at the illustrations within the pages. This is such a sweet book series.
I bought my daughter another three books from this series for Christmas and only have two more after this to read and then we will have finished our first entire series together!
This one is about Jasmine learning to play chess with her father and winning a chance to make a friend, but things don't go quite as she would have liked!

Jasmines new rules was a slow read. I felt it just didn’t have that much to it. I don’t deny that I enjoyed it I will say the ending could have been a bit more exciting it did disappoint me.
I love how this book taught important friendship lessons. Jasmine has a good relationship with her father. I like how she balanced obeying her father with trying to change unfair rules.
“Jasmine, you cannot build a friendship by pretending to be someone you are not. I hope you would never lose a game on purpose or act like someone other than your true self to make someone like you.”
In honor of my own little princess, these book photos are taken with her princess baby costumes and toys.
For my fifth wish, I was able to take a mild respite with @authorsuzfran's "Jasmine’s New Rules," the fourth installment of the “Disney Princess Beginnings" series — later rebranded as the "Before The Story" series. These early reader chapter books focus on the childhoods of all our beloved princesses and heroines, chronicling their experiences as they learn valuable life lessons. Spanning roughly 120 pages and filled with adorable black-and-white illustrations, these stories are perfect first-chapter books for Disney fans.
“Jasmine’s New Rules” follows a young Princess Jasmine, who’s begun to get more and more lonely within the palace walls, her sole friend being her tiger cub, Rajah. Upon asking her father, the Sultan, he again reinforces that Jasmine may not leave the palace walls. Though after an impressive display of chess, Jasmine convinces her father to allow his best friend’s son to come for a playdate. With so much time to imagine what having a friend is like, Prince Kav comes as a disappointment. He’s nothing like she expected! Now, it's up to young Jasmine to discover the meaning of true friendship, particularly when it means connecting with someone so different from herself.

Jasmine’s story is a sweet read, though bridled with sadness when considering the incredibly sheltered life she has had. It’s clear that young Jasmine already holds resentment and sorrow for her isolation, especially as a foil to Kav’s wild adventures across the globe. Though most of all, Jasmine’s heart shows through in this short tale, and her capacity to see beyond appearances, wealth, and status.
I would have loved to see this be a hair longer, with more time in the climax, but I enjoyed it regardless. It’s short and fun and absolutely meant for children 15 years younger than me. As a mom, I look forward to sharing this entire series with my princess as she gets older.
My four and a half year old and I love reading these Disney Beginnings books. They're a fun way to tell new stories about the princesses without changing anything from the movies. Jasmine has always been one of my favorites and my daughter loves her too.
Harmiton ja suhteellisen suloinen prinsessa-tarina alakoululaisille. Agraban hallitsijaperheen kyllä tunnisti, mutta tiettyjä piirteitä tarinassa hieman kyseenalaistin. Jasmine oli alkuperäiselle hahmolle uskollinen, Jafar taas loisti poissaolollaan.
