Wheels of Light: Chakras, Auras, and the Healing Energy of the Body

Rate this book
Wheels of Light explores the seven chakras, or energy centers, of the body with particular focus on the first chakra, which has to do with our basic life force, our physical bodies, and our sexuality.

Drawing on scientific research, Native American culture, the ancient traditions of the Egyptians and Greeks, the philosophies of the Hindus, and the religions of the East, Rosalyn L. Bruyere presents a unique perspective on the value and healing potential of the chakra system.

I'm giving it fours stars based on the usefulness of the information and the appropriateness of this book as an introduction to the chakras. It is somewhat geared towards budding practitioners/body workers, but informative and interesting for the layperson as well. I like her use of research, descriptions of chakras in history, myth, and religion, in-depth look at kundalini and the first chakra, and the relationship of disease to the chakras. I found information about energy levels in the body helpful; especially in regard to self-care, as one who works with people all day long. I would recommend it as an introductory book. I'd like to have seen more exercises and ways of working with the chakras, but that is probably another book.

This book provided many basic descriptions of what chakras, and auras are, and what their purpose is in existence, so far as it is known both presently and as passed down since ancient times. There are many helpful diagrams, photographs, mythological stories and art pieces that assist learning. Wheels of Light also provides detailed steps, and roots of information, for healers (those who are already, or wish to be), and one of the best descriptions of kundalini I have come across yet. The book can occasionally be "dry" as it is an educational and informational book, but I find it a helpful block for the foundation of knowledge of our energy many have lost touch with, or are unaware of.

Reread this book a couple of years after I last read it. I still really like it. Rosalyn brings science and the metaphysics together and explains the chakras. She has a slightly different perspective on the role of the chakras from what is currently described in the western world and I think that is an interesting angle. She concentrates on the root chakra, and given that most of could be more grounded in the western world I think that's a useful focus. If you're wondering about chakras and energy medicine and want something grounded, have a read

Really great book. I recommended it to a whole bunch of people. It’s great initiation into the world of healers and chakras and auras and energy, yet it’s that very broad spectrum in which your being initiated that was this book’s downfall.
It just lacked in length. It wasn’t comprehensive enough. The first few sections were good enough but after that you just found yourself wanting more and you did not get more. You felt like energy was being withheld from you. Not that I expect the author the thoroughly explain every single mentioned area, it’s just that in so many parts of the book I felt that this was not adding anything to my knowledge as a complete beginner.
It did inspire me to really get into this whole chakra and aura business, though. So thanks for that. I read about the author a bit and she seems delightful.

This book was very informative, I particularly enjoyed the discussions surrounding ancient cultures, religion and mythology. I think the book should have been titled, “The First Chakra: Healing in Red”—as the whole book felt centered around the importance of the root chakra and various physical/emotional ailments based on imbalances in the first chakra.

There was a ton of talk about serpents and awakening kundalini energy, which was interesting, but not necessarily what I was looking for. Though I’m glad I am aware of this now.

I was like, “When are we going to get to the second chakra?” And it never really happened.

I love, love, love Eastern Body, Western Mind by Anodea Judith—and I accidentally ordered this book a while back, instead of Judith’s book “Wheels of Life”—definitely still going to pick that one up as I am looking for a more thorough approach to the chakra system.

Really good! I’ve never really read anything like it before but this was recommended to me by a friend. The author does a great job integrating scientific knowledge with spiritual concepts into a holistic view of the world. I’m one to take everything with a grain of sand but there’s lots of truth in this book!

Excellent book. I love the history, science, and explanation of the chakras. I only wish the author would explain not just the first chakra but the other six too.

This is a great book about energy and health and the history of energy medicine through time and different cultures. She explains details about the body's energy systems that I have not read in any other books on the subject.

My dr recommended I read it and take anything from it that spoke to me; sadly I could not get into the book. Maybe I will try again on a few months

Book 3/52 for 2014. Pretty much just read this because I told a friend I would. It's a little tedious unless you're interested in chakras.
