What made learning about John Quincy Adams so interesting was that he essentially came from one of the first political families of the United States (his father having been president decades before him). It was interesting, too, to learn about his experiences growing up as the child of a diplomat, learning about politics, traveling to different countries, and working (even as a child) in a similar role.

I was expecting this entry to be somewhat dull, but I actually learned a lot!

It pointed out the wonderful things that John Qunicy Adams did do during his lifetime. He was a champion of the African Americans and the Native Americans. It also talked about the struggles he had with Andrew Jackson. They also referenced Amistad. I did not know that he defended, before the US Supreme Court, the slaves who mutinied on the Amistad.

This was my favorite mini-biography for grade/junior high school level student on John Quincy Adams, our 6th and one of our most underrated presidents. Loved it! So much information in a very easy to understand timeline of events. Without these Adams's our country would be back at least a decade socially.

I've been reading these series of books and have enjoyed them. They give a great summary of the president's lives. The end includes a time line about each president. I recommend this for younger readers trying to learn about the presidents.

It's interesting reading John Quincy's story. He was clearly a super educated and thoughtful guy. However, he didn't win the popular vote or even the electoral vote. Therefore, he was unable to gain the support of his congress. Just sounds familiar is all. It seems like he was a really great representative though. Love going through all these presidential biographies with my 9 year old.
