Heartwood Lake is one of those series that gets better with each book! and although Dirty Secret Love is only the second book, I can already say that this is going to become one of my favorite series. River & Sutton exceeded my expectations and their story was very different than what I expected but I loved every moment.

River is my favorite so far, I really liked reading him since A Place Like You and I LOVED that with this character Claudia Y. Burgoa gave us a different perspective from the Thorndale family, one in which River & Elle were happy with their family until their mom got sick an that broke everyone's hearts, I really liked knowing how important it was River's mother to him and all his siblings, and for him to share part of his memories with Sutton in such a natural way melted my heart. Plus, I really enjoyed reading River's funny, flirty, and tender personality.

Sutton was the best and biggest surprise of this book, the shy, reserved librarian, with a family that always pressures her and a group of friends who love her unconditionally, but she's much more than what seems at first glance: she hides a very interesting secret that makes her relationship with River even more fun, she has a daring side that I really liked reading and she knows when to take control her life.

River & Sutton begin their story when she needs a fake fiancé to get her parents off her back, and although these two are very different from each other, they share a connection and very special chemistry, the trust that exists between the two comes very naturally and the attraction is undeniable. Furthermore, I really liked that the author gave them in each other the perfect refuge to be themselves, to dream and to dare to explore the feelings that begin to grow as they spend more time together.

Heartwood Lake es una de esas series que se pone mejor con cada libro! y aunque Dirty Secret Love solo es el segundo, ya puedo decir que esta se va a convertir en una de mis series favoritas. River & Sutton superaron mis expectativas y su historia fue muy diferente a lo que esperaba pero ame cada momento.

River es mi favorito hasta ahora, me gustó muchísimo leerlo desde A Place Like You y AMÉ que con este personaje Claudia Y. Burgoa nos diera una perspectiva diferente de la familia Thorndale, una en la que River & Elle fueron felices con su papá hasta que su mamá enfermo rompiéndole el corazón a todos, me gustó mucho saber cuan importante fue la mamá de River para él y todos sus hermanos, y que él compartiera parte de sus recuerdos con Sutton de forma tan natural me derritió el corazón. Además, disfruté muchísimo leyendo la personalidad divertida, coqueta y tierna de River.

Sutton fue la mejor y más grande sorpresa de este libro, la bibliotecaria timida, reservada, con una familia que la presiona siempre y un grupo de amigas que la aman incondicionalmente, pero ella es mucho más de lo que parece a simple vista: econde un secreto muy interesante que hace su relación con River aún más divertida, tiene un lado atrevido que me gustó mucho leer y sabe cuando tomar las riendas de su vida.

Dirty Secret Love takes us back to Heartwood Lake but this time things get juicy as River finds himself fake engaged to the towns sweetheart, Sutton!

River is helping Sutton to quiet her parents but both of them discover secrets that will help them to find a solution to their predicament, but will it lead to love and forever! The last thing River wanted was forever but the more time he spends with Sutton the more he realizes he’s been doing life all wrong!

I loved the dynamic between these two and more then that I loved getting to know both characters and seeing them finally come into their own!

This was such a fun story that really swept me away. This was my first time picking up a book by this author and I am so glad that I did. The writing style was so unique and fresh and the storytelling was top-notch. This is such a fantastic small-town story to sink your bookish claws into.

It took no time at all to fall for these characters. They really made an impression from the very start. River was sweet and protective and swoony for days. Sutton is a darling and the poor woman is dealing with a mother that is just horrible. Both main characters were relatable and easy to connect with. I adored the secondary characters that made things interesting and made me want to know more.

I love a good fake romance trope and this book delivers on it so well. River is helping Sutton out to save face with her family but feelings start popping up like daffodils. Their friendship grew so naturally while sharing conversations and secrets with each other. Their relationship felt so genuine. The chemistry between them sizzles and their connection is undeniable.

Overall, I was so impressed with this story and I can't wait for the next one! I am so excited to go back and start reading Claudia Burgoa's backlist. She is definitely an author to keep on your radar. If you enjoy memorable characters, a well-written plot, and a sizzling romance then you should add this one to your TBR!

I love being back in Heartwood Lake and trying to find out what is really going on in this fictional town.

Sutton and River become fake engaged when her family returns to Heartwood Lake. Sutton told them she was engaged to get them off her back but now she has to convince River to do it. But once he meets her mother, he jumps in quickly to her rescue. They go away for the weekend to get their relationship story straight but quickly realize they have some explosive chemistry.

This is a quicker burn story than I am used to from Claudia, but it’s still full of angst/tension as you wait for them to realize how this “fake” engagement has changed their lives.

I absolutely loved Dirty Secret Love by Claudia Burgoa; a fake fiancé love story. It is the second book in her Heartwood Lake Secret Billionaires series. I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series. Claudia Burgoa continues to show that she is an amazing storyteller, and one of my favorite authors to read. It was impossible to put Dirty Secret Love down and I loved every moment on every page. Who does not love hot sexy men, strong females, loving families, and friends, who always support one another? I love how Claudia Burgoa always manages to create the "perfect" heroine, who is a strong, sassy woman on her own, to balance out the sexy, swoon worthy man. My favorite part is how Claudia Burgoa incorporated the title of the book into their love story with a simple statement from River. I really enjoy how the book is told in the first person from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. Dirty Secret Love is filled with heartwarming moments. Dirty Secret Love is filled with all those things that I have come to love and expect in a Claudia Burgoa love story, and I was not disappointed, especially with the poignant moments that filled this page turner. Dirty Secret Love is the story of River (Thorndale) Kershaw, helped manage Thorndale Industries, now works at Mountain Range Bar and Grill and a ranch hand and Sutton Asher, small town librarian. River and his siblings recently discovered that their father was found dead in his office. The entire Thorndale family ends up in Heartwood Lake, Colorado under the protection of Crait Quantum Shield, a high intelligence security company, using Kershaw as their last name. The family will need to stay there until they determine who is behind the recent events. Finn believes that it could be years. I love that Finnegan Gil and Derek Farrow run the program. Sutton and River met at the local library where Sutton works as the librarian. Sutton does not have a great relationship with her family. Her mother recently revealed that her older sister, Sailor is engaged, and Sutton informed her that she is also engaged. She just needs to find a fiancé. After a night a drinking with her friends, they decide that River is the best candidate as her fake fiancé. Sutton and River negotiate a deal for him to be her fake fiancé for several weeks. Sutton learns that her parents are having financial difficulties, and that they might be staying in Heartwood Lake longer than originally anticipated. I love how Sutton’s mother, Ruth surprises her at the library and Sutton introduces her to River, her fiancé. One of my favorite parts is when Sutton’s mother asks River where he lives and she states with Sutton, and then her mother questions Sutton’s virginity. Sutton informs her mother that River sleeps in the other bedroom. I love River’s response when she questions why Sutton is not wearing her engagement ring. As they spend time together, especially when they went away together, things quickly change between Sutton and River. I love the conversations between Sutton and River, and how they each share secrets with one another that they have not shared before, especially when Sutton reveals her real career to River. I love the text stream between Sutton and River. I love the heart-to-heart conversation between them when Sutton discovers River’s real last name and River reveals how he ended up in Heartwood Lake. I love the significance of the engagement ring that he gives to Sutton as his fake fiancée. I love that River was interested in Sutton even before she asked him to be her fake fiancé. I love Sutton's friendships with Jezebel, Regina, and Wren and how they always have her back. A plot twist has Sutton revealing the truth about her relationship with River to her mother and returns the engagement ring to River. I love everything that River does and all the changes that he is willing to make in his life to stay in Heartwood Lake and have a life with Sutton. Another favorite part of the love story is River’s solution to Sutton’s issues with her mother, and then proposal to Sutton where he returns the ring to her. Another favorite part is the ending of their love story, and their vows to each other as they get married. I loved all the characters in Dirty Secret Love, and I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series. Who does not love family and friends that always have each other’s backs? I enjoyed all the interactions between the Kershaw siblings, it feels like real family love and makes me laugh at their teasing. I thoroughly enjoyed Dirty Secret Love, who does not love fake fiancé love story. Highly recommend this incredible love story and am so looking forward to reading the other books in the series. This is book two in The Heartwood Lake Secret Billionaires series and it is Sutton and River’s story and omg this is definitely a must read. Sutton lived in Heartwood Lake which she loved as her best friends Jez, Wren and Regina also lived there and they were more like sisters and also Sutton worked as a librarian which kept her away from her toxic and judgmental family who constantly put her down no matter what she does it is never good enough for them and they treat her like the black sheep of the family because she lives her own life and after her parents made big money on a patent that they designed they thought that they were better than anyone so after Sutton was put down again and again she invented a story that she was engaged to a man with plenty of money but now it has backfired because her parents are returning to Heartwood Lake causing chaos and panic in Sutton’s life and now she needs to find someone who will be her fake fiancé and she knows just the right man to ask but things don’t always go as planned. River was living in Washington DC and helped to manage Thorndale Industries which left n room to date not that he wanted to be in a relationship because he was a one and done kind of man but when his father is killed he needed to go to live in Heartwood Lake where he is a farm worker and waiter at the bar but living with his extended family most of which he can’t stand as they are all putting on a front which is driving him mad as all he wants is his life back but when Sutton asks him to be fake engaged to her he says no until her obnoxious and self centred mother walks into the library and completely runs Sutton through the mill and River finds himself agreeing to be her fake fiancé to help her out. The attraction and chemistry between Sutton and River is so hot and strong but neither want a relationship so when they are unable to deny that chemistry they end up in a fake engagement with benefits along with some ground rules so that things don’t become any more complicated than they are and they agree to a back story to convince everyone especially her horrible family. When Sutton and River start to develop feelings for each other there connection becomes so strong but something happens that puts everything that Sutton and River has built in jeopardy but will they be able to sort the situation out before it is too late and they both miss out on the happiness and future that they both want and deserve. Wow the things that Sutton and River has gone through in their lives had you feeling so many emotions and my heart broke with how Sutton’s mother treated her but in all of this drama you could tell that River was a carin, loving and protective person with such a very dirty mouth that had you turning the pages while enjoy Sutton and River together and yes they both had their secrets which will be revealed but you could feel how strong their love for each other was as it seeped off the pages. This story pulled me in right from the beginning and kept my attention throughout the whole book as it was so addictive and I can’t wait to read the next book in this amazing series.

Sutton Asher has been living her life pleasing her mother. Unbeknownst to her, it became manipulative and emotionally abusive over time. She chose to live away from her family’s toxicity and alone in Heartwood Lake where she found her friends as her second family. Everything is at peace until she receives the news that her parents will be moving back to the small town. Hence, the proposal to River to become her fake fiance for a few weeks. Given the scenarios to make it seem real in front of everyone, the fake line has clouded and their relationship becomes real as they spend more time together.

I find this second instalment in the series better than the first one. (Sorry, Drake.) River’s character is a breath of fresh air from the gloomy life of this mysterious family. Although, there are some funny banters between the stepsiblings, you can’t help but love River lightening up the mood with his charm. Sutton, on the other hand, was quite a surprise. Who knew that this quiet librarian had some naughty bone in her? Truly these two are perfect for each other. In addition to the love story of these two, this book gives us a more in-depth background of the siblings and how they spent their lives living with their father. River surely was lucky to have experienced a normal loving family.

I’m giving this book 4 stars because I find that the ending was a bit rushed. Nevertheless, I’ve enjoyed everything. Now, I can’t wait for Bach’s book and looks like his life in Heartwood Lake will soon change.

It is great to be back in Heartland Lake for another fabulous novel and it was just as amazing as the first and not to be missed book, “A Place Like You”. This second book is Sutton and River’s story, and the story not only captivated my attention the entire time, but it tugged at my heartstrings too. Sutton is the town’s librarian, and she built a good life in Heartwood Lake, made forever friends and kept away from her demanding and always criticizing mother. River is a Kershaw, formally known as Thorndale, who, along with his entire family, is in witness protection and hiding out in Heartland Lake, until it is safe to return to his life. It is Finnegan Gill who is running the protection program there and l am loving how he is keeping these billionaires humbled and on their toes. When Sutton finds out her parents are coming to Heartwood Lake to stay, she needs to do something to help keep her off her back, that something was to get a fake fiancé and her friends suggest one of the Kershaws. River came into the library wanting books and she took that opportunity to ask him, but he was going to say no, but was on board after seeing how her mother treated her. I loved how everything played out in this book, and it was great to watch these two get to know each other, share their secrets, and what secrets they were. The chemistry between them was electric, and inevitably, their fake relationship would morph into something more, something real. As always, the writing, plot and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. The story has the perfect balance of drama, charming humor, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. Claudia Burgoa, thank you for another wonderful story and emotional roller coaster ride. 

🎧📚🎧 Aaron Shedlock and Stephanie Németh-Parker are wonderfully talented voice artists and they did an amazing job bringing these characters and story to life. Both Sherlock’s and Németh-Parker’s portrayal of the characters was spot on, grasping every aspect of their characters’ personality, and performing the roles with perfection. They set the right tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to and their performance elevates the already amazing story to another level. Thank you for another fabulous listen.

This is River Kershaw and Sutton Asher's story that is filled with secrets, fun banter, heartfelt emotion, and fiery chemistry. Sutton has avoided her critical mother, by living away from her in the small town of Heartwood Lake. She loves her quiet life as a librarian but is tired of feeling like the black sheep of the family. She told her mother she was engaged to a billionaire, and it worked great until her mom moved to town and wanted to meet this mystery man. River had his life taken away when his father was murdered. Now he is in hiding, living a simple life in Heartwood Lake with his estranged family. The one thing that has made it better was seeing Sutton at the library everyday. When she asked him to pretend to be her fake fiancé, he jumped at the chance. Now he can show her who he is without giving away any secrets. They need to really sell their engagement, but it doesn't take long for their fiery attraction to lead to explosive passion. River is surprised with how easy it is to open up to Sutton. Dirty Secret Love is the second installment in the Heartwood Lake Billionaires series. These books can be read as standalone, but why not read the series. DSL is a fake love/fiancé genre that brings all the best parts of storytelling.


Sutton is truly the black sheep of her family, no matter what she does she is never enough for them and their judgmental ways. The fact that she strives to live her own life away from them and their money makes them judge her all the more. So what does she do? She makes up the perfect fiancé. A perfect man right out of her own imagination. Now that they are coming back to Heartwood what is she going to do? She’s going to find a man to play her fiancé that’s what. And maybe she knows just who to ask…


River is a Heartwood native, as is his family. When tragedy strikes his family, he returns to his hometown to be with his extended family, not that he cares for them all that much. He is eager to return to his life in Washington DC. Heartwood was never a place he thought he would return to, but family has a way of dragging you where you don’t always want to go. When Sutton makes her plea to him to act as her fake fiancé in front of her family, he turns her down quick as spit. That is until her mother finds her way into Suttons workplace AKA the library and treats her absolutely horrible in full view of everyone. Then he agrees to help her.


These two may not want a real relationship, but there is no denying the chemistry and heat that is between them. River and Sutton slowly start building a foundation of trust that neither are able to believe will become more complicated. As always though, in any good story, it does. The more time they spend together, the more they learn, the more they want from one another, feelings emerge and by the end you are dying for more and more.


This was a great read to start off the new year! I’m very excited to see what this lovely author has coming for us next.

This is book 2 in the series, but we get a lot more info in this book about the family then we got in the first book. It stars the Kershaw family of siblings and some of their mothers, who are all in hiding in Heartwood Lake. This book features River Kershaw who is the youngest male sibling. He is paired with the town librarian, Sutton when she begs him to be her fake fiancee.

River is a new transplant to Heartwood Lake when his father is killed, and Finnegan believes someone is after the entire family and so he hides them in this small town. The residents know that they are being sold a story, but they go along with it. Sutton is the town librarian, and she has her own secrets, and she is in desperate need of a fake fiancée when her family decides to move to town.

She decides River is the perfect guy, but she has to convince him. River is the town flirt. He is a really fun guy, pretty much the opposite of Sutton. He thinks she is awesome just a bit too serious to ever like him. But when he sees her mom in action, he decides to ride to her rescue. And so, the two become fake engaged.

This was a really fun story. Despite the hiding out and fake fiancée storyline, it was a very light read. I learned a whole lot about the Kershaw family and the murdered father and cannot wait to learn more in the next book. Both Sutton and River are awesome characters and I really loved watching them get to know each other and share their secrets.

This is the second book in the series and although it can be read on its own, I feel it is helpful to read the first book in order to understand the backstory. Sutton's mother is the worst! What follows is the easy banter, the fun texting and the sizzling chemistry that almost effortlessly morphs into something real. Both Sutton and River have vowed not to fall in love, but with what's between them, that could prove impossible. As Sutton keeps a part of herself back from River, she has to learn to trust and allow herself to believe that she is worthy of everything that she desires.

I wouldn't say this is my favorite book of Ms. Burgoa's, it felt a little rushed with River and Sutton going from not knowing each other to madly in love with little interaction other than the hot and heavy type! But a four star Claudia Burgoa book is still a book worth reading and there is a lot to enjoy about this series.

Dirty Secret Love is the second book in the Heartwood Lake Secret Billionaires series and River and Sutton completely have my heart! Fake fiancé tropes are one of my favorites and Claudia Burgoa nailed it with this one.

Sutton’s mother is downright despicable and unfortunately, she’s moving back to Heartwood Lake. And in order to live up to her mother’s ridiculous expectations, Sutton told her that she’s engaged. Even though River Kershaw is the town playboy, Sutton decides that he’s the right man to play her fake fiancé. Convincing River isn’t easy at first but once he encounters Sutton’s intolerable mother, he agrees. This is when the flirty, charming and entertaining banter begins. Everything about them made me have a constant grin on my face throughout the book. There’s also an immediate pull between them and obvious romantic chemistry because they couldn’t keep their hands off each other! They are just so wild and passionate together!

The secret as to why the Kershaw family suddenly moved to Heartwood Lake is still ongoing and I think this is fantastic for the storyline and for the series. I’ve been heavily invested since I read Starts With You, the novella and the first book, A Place Like You. I’m definitely anticipating the rest of the Kershaw siblings books. River is certainly a unique and wonderful surprise, Sutton is sweet and down to earth and they gave each other everything and so much more.

This is the second book in the author’s new series set in the tiny, remote Colorado town of Heartwood Lake. The Kershaw/Thorndale large family of wealthy half siblings is in a witness protection program run by a high-intelligence company. They’re dealing with family issues and the loss of their careers or businesses, while being hidden from a mysterious enemy who presumably murdered the unlikeable family patriarch. The half-siblings are slowly working through their family issues with each other. River is one of the younger half-siblings, who had worked in the family business. In Heartwood Lake, he’s stuck working part-time on a ranch and part-time as a busboy or waiter. Sutton grew up in Heartwood Lake but had moved away as a child. She returned to be with her best friends and works as the town’s librarian. Sutton has her own family baggage. When her awful Mother returns to town too, she and her friends come up with the idea of a fake fiancé to help Sutton deal with her family. This story moves quickly but is still very engaging. There is a lot of banter and heat, with well-written dual points of view and a few plot twists. These characters ultimately have a very swoony and satisfyingly romantic HEA. It can be read alone, although it will hook you on the series if you haven’t already read the first book. Very enjoyable romance! I received an advance review copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Ooh, I am loving this series!! River and Sutton were fabulous together, throwing witty banter and innuendo like it was their job! The chemistry between them was blazing hot, and those text messages were a riot!!😂🥵 The story had the perfect blend of angst, laughter, drama, spice, suspense, and a few surprises. I’m loving the overarching mystery, as well as learning more about the various Kershaw in the clan. I cannot wait to unwind more of this conundrum and see more Kershaws fall in love. Don’t miss this must-read book or the series opener, A Place Like You!! You won’t be disappointed!!

The 2nd book in the series and definitely loving it so far and loving the difference in each story as well as the different personalities of the brothers.

It was cute and funny, fun storyline and seemed such a quick pace. Definitely could read it in a day.

The relationship between Sutton and River is so good. Absolutely love their banter. Especially the chapters with text messages between the two of them.

Both come from a hard family life and through the book they definitely had great character development. With the help of each other.

Can’t wait for the next brother. Who’s is gonna be next 😱

Gaaahhhhh... I loved this book! It was such a quick, entertaining and easy read, I couldn't help but be sucked into the small town of Heartwood Lake.

Sutton works as a librarian at the local library, but in reality she has another 'main' job that only close friends know about. With a suffocating mother who always critiques her life choices at every turn, she invents a fake fiancé to attend her sister's upcoming nuptials with. Enter River, the local towns 'playboy' to step up to the challenge, but will he agree to such a request?

I personally loved Sutton and River as a couple!! 🫶🏻 How they set strict boundaries between them but yet they were soon thrown out the window 😂 The text messages exchanged between them were so funny, literally had me howling with laughter! 💬

I also couldn't help but love River the more we got to know him in the book. Someone who is loyal and protective over his siblings (although he denies this at every chance he gets). Feeling a little lost in life, with subtle guidance from Sutton, he gradually finds life's purpose. Sutton's mother was a right piece of work, I'm not surprised Sutton saved up her full quota of lies just for her 😂 Knowing that they had each others back's made my heart so full 💗

There is also a back story which is cleverly interwoven (I believe) throughout the whole series, which explains the Kershaw's sudden move to Heartwood Lake. Although this is the 2nd interconnected standalone in the series, there are recaps on who's who from Book 1. I seriously can't wait for more of the Kershaw clan in the coming books. Let's just say, this won't be my last book from Claudia as I really want the ongoing mystery solved! 🧐

Heartwood Lake seems to be the home of where people lead secret lives. Our MMC, River Kershaw, is currently living with his very large extended family doing odd jobs around town to stay busy while the FBI works to find his father's murderer. Our FMC, Sutton Asher, is the librarian overseeing the space where River and his brother, Bach, like to hang out. As the black sheep of the family she's made up a rich fake fiance to hopefully prevent her parents from constantly comparing her siblings' successful lives to her simple one as a small town librarian. When her parents suddenly announce a return to Heartwood, she asks River to play the role. He wants no part in Sutton's scheme until he witnesses for himself how condescending her mother is to her daughter.
River suggests they getaway for the weekend to plan their strategy, and that's when sparks start to fly between them. In their "get to know you" talks, they find a certain calmness with each other that they don't get in their respective relationships with their siblings. Understanding what River and his family are going through and appreciating his help with her own family issue, Sutton shares her secret with him.
I loved this couple's candid conversations with one another, in spite of the turmoil around them. I hope we see more of them in this series!

Claudia Burgoa is a favorite, and this series is so much fun! Just the right amount of angst and romance, I find myself completely captivated by the people in Heartwood Lake. This story is River and Sutton's and it's fabulous. River is in Heartwood Lakes under Finn's protection. He is quite the character, knowing he is stuck where he is if he wants his family to remain safe. He didn't expect to find love. Sutton has found out her parents are coming back to the small town to live, and to keep them from bothering her about marriage, she has a plan. He is going to ask River to be her fake fiancee. Pluses to this? River gets to live in a nice house, and the friends with benefits they agree upon. But is that all? Feelings, family, small town, passion, all the things I love brought out in this fantastic story about a librarian! What could be better?

Well, better is Aaron Shedlock and Stephanie Nemeth-Parker teaming up to tell me the story! Shedlock is amazing as River. He is warm and convincing! He left Sutton no choice but to fall for him. Nemeth-Parker too finds the essence of Sutton, bringing out her feelings. Loved this team and their portrayal of this story.

Fake engagement fun!
Book two in the Heartwood Lake series focuses on Sutton and River.
Fantastic flirty banter between these two engaging characters. This has an entertaining, fun storyline with the fake engagement, but also had some moments that were riddled with angst, especially between Sutton and her family, particularly her mother.
Great world building in this small town with its permanent inhabitants and those of a more temporary nature being housed in the private WITSEC program, I loved the interactions with Sutton’s best friends and with River's brothers.
This was easy to read, and I was hooked from the start and very invested in seeing this fake relationship turn into something real. The chemistry burns bright between these two and leads to plenty of steamy action. Sutton and River just click together, and I love this paragraph from River describing them. “It’s as if we have known each other in another life, or through a whimsical dream neither one of us remembers – but our hearts do. And we finally found a way to meet each other in this life and create a deep connection between us. But how do I convince her that she is not only special, but that I’m willing to reach for the stars just to see her smile.” Aww…

This book was fun, flirty, and definitely dirty. It was also sweet and swoon worthy with an HEA to smile about. The youngest male "Kershaw" has defied everything he thought and found love. I loved getting to know River. I loved getting that inside scoop into this mysterious family. River had a heart and soul that was not only aching for the right love but was always trying to get his family back. These brothers are slowly proving that they can band together.

Sutton I wasn't so sure about. I'll be honest and admit I wasn’t a fan of hers at the beginning. She didn't have much of a back bone. She acted like she did. But she just couldn't be herself when it came to her family. It drove me up a wall that she kept acting like everything River threw at her was a horrible idea when she's the one who made up a fake finance in the beginning. The man was only trying to help her! By the end of the book I warmed up to her. But she tested my nerves at times.

Did I enjoy this book? Definitely. Am I looking forward to seeing which "Kershaw" falls next? Again, definitely. I will say I'd love to meet the sisters. Am I happy for River and Sutton? Without a doubt. Bring on some more Heartwood Lake ❤

Heartwood Lake book 2. The Kershaw family is in this small town as part of a private witness protection program. Someone killed his dad and they are all in danger. River is the youngest. He has a track record of messing up and not following the rules.

Sutton Asher is the town librarian. She’s sweet, somewhat meek and has a strict sense of duty. She is also terrified of her mother and feels like an outcast in her own family.
To appease her mom and stop her constant interference, she conjures up a pretend fiancé. When Sutton’s parents announce they are moving back to town, she has to find someone to play this role, stat. She picks River, the flirty fun guy who spends hours at the library reading.
While their engagement is fake, the feelings blooming between them are real and things get spicy very fast.

This story is not as angsty as some of Burgoa’s other works. River’s emotions and loyalty to his family run deep. Despite what he says, he cares about his siblings very much. Sutton needs to take a stand and live her life, not the one her parents keep pushing on her.

Callaghan is the sibling I am most curious about. I really want his story.

This is the second book in the Heartwood Lake Secret Billionaires series, and it gives readers Sutton and River’s story. Sutton is the black sheep of her family, and her mother will not let her forget it. Never one to have a kind word for her daughter, Sutton thought she was safe by living in Heartwood Lake and working as a librarian away from her family when the unthinkable happens…her parents are moving back and now Sutton must manifest her fake finacé or be caught in the lie she told. River is new to Heartwood Lake. It was not a move of choice but rather necessity and it made him the best candidate for Sutton’s lie to become truth. Everyone has their reasons for doing things, but the moment River agreed to Sutton’s plan, his fate was sealed and let the entertainment begin…Overall, this is one book that you will love from the beginning. It can be read as a standalone. The banter between the characters is witty and engaging. The storyline itself is well written with some plot twists. The chemistry between the characters heats up as the pages turn. You cannot go wrong with this one and I look forward to what the author has coming next.

If you're gonna have a fake fiance with benefits, River Kershaw is the way to go. He's totally swoon-worthy from the start, and he just gets better with each chapter. He's also really good for Sutton, who needs someone in her corner. I guess that's not entirely fair; she has a loyal friend group, but River brings something else to the table - something besides the obvious! These two do have some seriously good chemistry, and they're both lovable and easy to root for. A fair amount of the angst in this one comes from Sutton's mother, who needed an attitude adjustment in the worst way (I'll leave out the details on that, so I don't spoil anything).
We can't discuss this book without mentioning Heartwood Lake. We're only on book two, and I'm already in love with this small town. Then there's the whole Secret Billionaires thing. The whole "Kershaw" family is a hoot, and I can't wait to see which one gets their HEA next - not like there aren't enough to choose from. Whoever is next, it's sure to be a blast, much like books one and two, so I'll just be here, not so patiently waiting for my next visit to Heartwood Lake.

Dirty Secret Love is the second book in the Heartwood Lake series. I thought it was a fun and cute read. This is River and Sutton's story and who doesn't enjoy a good fake engagement story with a HEA?

Oh my gosh, Sutton's mother was a nightmare! Sutton can't ever do anything right so she panicked when her sister got engaged and she was getting picked on by her mom. Hence, she created the fake fiance/engagement. River is the complete opposite of Sutton. He's known as the town playboy and he's living in Heartwood Lake in secret for protection. Once River meets Sutton's mother he feels there is no other choice but to help her.

This little arrangement starts off as friendly funny banter but starts to turn into something more. The chemistry between these two is piping hot. The one thing about arrangements, when you set ground rules to never fall in love, that almost always backfires on you! This was a quick read about never expecting to find your forever love but it ends up happening when you least expect it to. I recommend reading this book and also starting the series!

Well Claudia Burgoa has done it again and delivered another unforgettable and unputdownable addition to her Heartwood Lake Secret Billionaire series . Dirty Secret Love is the type of romance that has the ability to hook you from the very first page . To make you lose track of time and have you devouring every single word until the early morning hours . I adored River and Sutton so freaking much . I can’t really put into words what it was but the connection I felt to them was just so strong and the chemistry they shared with each other was so so not ; you. Could literally feel the steam.coming off the pages . Angst , witty banter , humor , heartbreaking and heartwarming moments, unexpected surprises, obstacles, drama , second chances, love , passion , family and friendships , characters so beautifully written, so unique and sometimes complex - the more you get to know them the more you fall in love . I’m such a sucker for a great billionaire and fake relationship romance; well this was without a doubt one of the best I’ve read . I smiled , I laughed, I sobbed and I rooted so freaking hard
