Pros 99 fantastic nuggets for leaders who serve with volunteers in ministry. Each chapter is brief enough, and God’s Word is referenced enough not to feel like it’s only coming from the mind of man.
Cons Observe some phrasing from the authors that may give a different leadership ministry context. Depending on your ministry context, you may need to recommend this one with a preface of how conservative/liberal they implement the qualifications of ministers in this book.
On whose shelf? pastors/directors who oversee volunteer sheep, and the interns in pursuing ministry. For Summer Interns, I would recommend implementing page 232 over a span of 9 weeks within late May and early August. Discussion questions provided
I like Tom and Tim's way of breaking up info into very small chunks and having tons of chapters. I can read through it quickly, dog-earing pages (yes, I have no qualms with dog-earing) that I want to reference later, and go back and type up a jot list of action items/think-on items based on what I've read. Definitely a great resource for church leaders of any position at churches of any size.
At first I thought, "With chapters this short what could these guys possibly teach me about leading volunteers?" Within just a few short two page chapters I was hooked on how simple strategies employed by the right leader could effect an entire ministry. This should be read and implemented by any & all church staff, pastors, and leaders.
From reading this book I found out that the information were not what I expected! From the title I thought there will be good ideas I will learn and implement, but from my perspective the ideas were simple and outdated. But thanks for the authors to share they're information and experience!
