When Barbie discovers that her aunt Millie's fashion company is struggling, she enlists the help of several fashionable fairies to turn the business around. This Step 2 reader is based on Barbie's latest direct-to-DVD release, Barbie™: A Fashion Fairytale.
Barbie and her aunt ran into trouble when an evil spirited lady tries to take their dresses from them to have her own fashion show. Will the evil lady prevail?
If I were a five year old girl, this would be the best book ever. It has Barbie, fairies, a poodle and fancy dresses. It has a magic wardrobe with a cheesy rhyme. Every page is saturated with pink. The version we have even had a bracelet!
But I'm not a five year old girl. The story is barely tolerable. It is based on a movie that I hope I am never subjected to. Barbie is upset she was labeled as a diva. I'm pretty sure she qualifies. In any case it has a decent moral.
Why did I read this? Because I have a little girl and I'll read to her as long as she will let me. Even if I go pink blind.
Sam got this for her birthday. To be fair, she likes the story. But the fairies in the book are called Flairies (we're assuming that's fairies with flair) and one of them is named Shyne. For an intro reader to have that much garbage in it it sort of makes me angry.
This is basically a recap of the movie. I didn’t expect anything else from it, but I’m not rating it because rating a recap doesn’t make much sense.
I only read this because I was gifted the book years ago around the time it was published, and thought maybe I should actually read it before I get rid of it.
My daughter is now almost 6 and she is becoming fascinated with the Barbie books. She often brings them home from the school library. And recently on our trip to the book store she picked a number of Barbie books to get to read. This was the first one we read. She loved it because it is very close to the movie. But the story is a little weak, trying to do an hour and a half movie in such few pages. The illustrations are also a little weak. The movie has such strong vibrant colours and yet the illustrations are, to a great extent, plain, especially for what is supposed to be dresses glamorized by fairies. Not the best of the Barbie books!
Barbie goes to visit her either ageless or completely Botoxed aunt in Paris and fashion ensues. There's lots of pink, which is not unexpected. There are also "flairies" who make the dresses sparkle. There are lots of terrible children's books, so I don't know why this one got me so riled up I bothered to review it. I assume many little girls will just love 1) Barbie, 2) pink, 3) sparkle-inducing flairies. If it gets them reading, it's acceptable. Barely.
Barbie goes to see her Aunt Milicent. She discovers some flaries. They help her make lots of pretty dresses. They did a fashion show. They go home riding in carriages.
My favorite part is when they do the fashion show. You might like this book if you like things that are magical.
Why do characters in a Preschool-1st Grade reader have names like Millicent and Jacqueline? I also dislike the emphasis on fashion and appearance and the diva behavior that appear in many of these Barbie readers. That said, my five-year-old daughter enjoys reading them, so... three grudging stars.
Are you impressed by fashion and adore clothes? Why don't you have a look at this book for kids, it will unfold your imagination and you'll love the characters and will live with them and their love for exquisite taste. Don't miss it.
I recently read this book to a kindergartner and she loved it. She loved all the glitter on the dresses and the fairies that helped make the outfits. This is a great book for children because it uses a lot of imagination in the story and shows them how team work can make dreams happen.
This book was a simple children's book. Nothing too spectacular about it, besides the fact that it is a Barbie story! It was a fun read, but again, nothing that would make you want to read it twice. A simple fashion story.
