The long, remarkable poem that gives this book its title is a dual biographical sketch of the poet's ancestor who fought in the US Civil War and that soldier's daughter, who made her own way in the world. I didn't want it to end.

Beautiful story, wonderfully and pithily written. I loved the dueling narratives.
