Matchmaking Mamas #2

An Unwitting Alliance

Rate this book
Cassandra Vail has but one objective at the Kellens’ ball: she must secure a proposal from her eminently suitable suitor. Instead, she finds her best-laid plans thwarted by another man―the handsome and thoroughly vexing Mr. Harwood. Thanks to his meddling, Cassandra is faced with an unthinkable consequence: her parents take matters into their own hands and betroth her to a complete stranger.

Tom Harwood meant only to deter a debutante from pursuing his friend. He wasn’t supposed to be entranced by her. He certainly wasn’t supposed to flirt with her. And he especially wasn’t supposed to engage the wrong woman entirely. To make matters worse, he’s offended Cassandra and before he has the opportunity to make amends, he finds himself the latest unwitting victim of the meddlesome Matchmaking Mamas. His parents have signed a contract for his hand in marriage, and it seems his mysterious betrothed is as opposed to the union as he is.

When the reluctant couple finally meets, they are shocked to realize they are not strangers after all. Can one miserable beginning be overcome, or has their future ended before it even begins?

“When it comes to Matchmaking Mamas, Miss Vail, never let your guard down.” I absolutely adored everything about this story! This may be my favorite Anneka Walker book ever and definitely a new favorite hero! From Tom’s and Cassandra’s first meeting, I knew reading An Unwitting Alliance was going to be pure enjoyment. Those delightful matchmaking mamas have met their match with these two. With a heartfelt romance, delicious witty banter, engaging characters, sizzling chemistry, and a little help from the Rebels, Ms. Walker weaves an enchanting story that I found myself easily devouring.

After their disastrous first meeting at a ball which involves mistaking green for red, Tom Harwood and Cassandra Vail are surprised to learn they’ve both been betrothed by their parents. What they don’t realize yet, is that it’s to each other. After receiving a hilarious letter from his supposed betrothed, Tom journeys to Cassandra’s home to see if they can end the betrothal. Cassandra is shocked to learn that the vexing man who thwarted her plans is now her betrothed. As they both seek ways to end it, they soon find themselves becoming allies and falling in love. But Tom is unsure of marriage and family, and Cassandra is as stubborn as ever to trust and open her heart, will this matchmaking mamas’ plan be doomed to failure?

Tom is a charming tease who can’t help but make you smile. Like Cassandra, I found my heart melting at his antics and yet underneath it all is a tender heart who’s still hurting from the loss of his brother. His handsome features, clever nicknames, sunny disposition, and a fierce desire to help the downtrodden make him irresistible. When seeming overwhelming responsibilities are asked of him by Cassie’s father, he rises to the occasion and soon has all the Vail siblings wrapped around his finger. I loved how he wants to help better conditions in the workhouses and the way he cares for the little boy Alan whose mother is sick.

Cassandra, dubbed Cassie by Tom, is a force to be reckoned with. She’s stubborn and doesn’t like to be forced into things. Little by little Tom worms his way into her affections and she has to decide if she’ll let him in. I loved the way Tom helped her see things in a new light. When she has trouble with a neighbor, she carefully listens to Tom’s advice and in turn helps him to see his problems in a new way. They’re both perfect for each other and I loved watching their romance play out.

Some of my favorite things were: the kittens, Tom’s disguise, Cassandra’s letter, the Matchmaking Mamas’ letters of advice, the Rebels’ deep friendships, Cassie’s shed, stories in the hay, all the cute nicknames Tom has for everyone, the first tender moments with Pumpkin, and that first kiss!

Definitely a must read! This series is quickly becoming a favorite and I can’t wait for the next Matchmaking Mamas adventure. Though it’s the second book in the series, it can be read as an standalone, but is more enjoyable if you’ve read the first book. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher and author. All opinions are my own and voluntarily given.

A Matchmaker: one that arranges a match.

especially: one who tries to bring two unmarried individuals together in an attempt to promote a marriage.

Yes, this series is about a group of matchmaking mamas who want what's best for their children. Their children see it as meddling. This is where the fun and humor start. Author Anneka Walker has a way of writing such wonderful and memorable scenes. There were many where I was LOL, even on a plane to visit family in Arizona.

An Unwitting Alliance is the story of Tom Harwood and Cassandra Vail. They meet by accident and find themselves betrothed against their will. Unfortunately at their first meeting, things go wrong and Cassie doesn't like Tom at all. With a very humorous letter, Cassie tries to dissuade Tom from the betrothal and staying at her family's home. Once "Teasing Tom" gets there, he realizes how untrue the contents of the letter are.

Some of my favorite things in the book include:

Misunderstanding at a ball
The above-mentioned letter
Cassandra's siblings
A basket full of kittens
The Rebels
Tom's good deeds & path to healing
Witty Dialogue
Slow-burn Romance
A long-awaited kiss

I loved how cute Tom and Cassandra are together. The chemistry is strong from the beginning. The journey for both Tom and Cassie is wonderfully told as they navigate an alliance between them, with The Rebels help. Little do they know where it would lead them.

This series is now one of my favorites and one that you should read. An Unwitting Alliance is a heart-felt, banter-filled romance that will delight you as much as it did me.

The Matchmaking Mamas strike again!

"Tom Harwood attended a ball for one reason alone--obligation." But that ball was the catalyst that changed everything. Tom has a very teasing and mischievous personality and when he finds himself betrothed to Cassandra, it's a fine asset to have as he navigates her shenanigans to get out of the arrangement.

In an effort to dissuade the first meeting, she pens a humorous letter that Tom takes to heart, as he sets out to help her achieve her wildest dreams in life. I was constantly smiling and laughing over the antics and situations, but glimmering through it all were two beloved things: a heartwarming tale of a young boy and a sweet, blossoming romance. This story was wonderful and I couldn't get enough of the importance of family, solid friendships, the desire to change conditions, and failed attempts at resisting love.

This is one of my favorite books of Walker's to date! Such a fun story, full of heart, swoon, and laughs.

Content: mild romance; mild moments of peril due to a workhouse situation/off page death/threat of miscarriage

*I received a complimentary copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own and were voluntarily given.*

This series is such a delight! I loved meeting Cassandra and getting to know more about Tom in this book. Tom is such a wonderful and fun loving character. Cassandra is strong willed and stubborn at times, with such a big heart. Their meet cute all the way up to the sweet ending (and all the moments in between) were just so heartwarming and adorable. This author is so amazing at infusing humor into her stories. Some moments I won’t forget are the kittens, Tom’s disguise and Tom getting to know Cassandra’s family. I always love to see the Rebels, Tom’s group of friends, and get to know them more. This also can be read as a standalone, but it is fun to see characters from other books pop up. I’m so excited to read the rest of the series!

⚠️Content: I give this book a PG rating. Some examples of the content are: mention of alcohol; mention of lunatics; a boy was physically abused in the past; an orphan and loss of a family member.
⚠️TW: brief mention of past physical abuse

'Miss Smith was as fiery as she was beautiful, it seemed--a combination he would find most attractive were he looking...which he was not.'

Awwww, the never say never trope. One of my favorites because you always know that "never going to happen scenario" is gonna happen!

This book is my new favorite from this author! So well done and SOOOOO entertaining.

These 'Matchmaking Mamas' are at it again and they are better than ever. I loved the arranged marriage + forced proximity for these two stubborn characters. The charismatic male main character is adorable and will have you laughing at almost every turn of the page! Cassie is goodness personified...a little stubborn, but good to her core. I loved her relationships with her siblings and her quick wit.

Tom and Cassie are a match made in literary heaven....even if it takes them forever to realize it!

"You know, she doesn't like me at all. How is that possible? Most everyone likes me. This situation would be far easier to deal with if she would cooperate."
...
'How was he ever going to convince her to work with him rather than against him? They had a betrothal to end and not a lot of time in which to do it.'

Yes, friends. This book so good in all of the ways! It's bright and entertaining while still having tender moments that endear these characters to you and have you cheering for them throughout.

The ending is perfection. A million stars for that alone!! I cannot recommend this one enough. Anneka Walker has truly outdone herself with this story and you all need to read and experience it for yourselves!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.

Content/Trigger: loss of a loved one, matchmaking mamas, arranged marriage, forced proximity, deplorable workhouse conditions mentioned, friendships, happy family relationships, kisses, fantastic banter, stubborn main characters, witty and romantic.

I loved this book! I went in not knowing anything about it. By doing that, I think the first chapter of this book may be one of my favorites ever! If I'd read the blurb about the story, I don't think I would have enjoyed it quite as much.

This is the second book in the Matchmaking Mamas' series. I didn't realize that until I'd just begun to read it. I have had the first in the series, Bargaining for the Barrister, on my TBR since it came out. I have to read it now! Reading this one out of order was fine. But indo think I would have enjoyed it more if I'd been familiar with the friend group and the Matchmaking Mamas' previous antics.

Cassie and Tom were hilarious together. Their bickering and banter were only topped by their slow burn romance blossoming. I think if you'd read the first book, you'd love seeing everyone back and working together for a good cause and for Tom. Cassandra's family was endearing as well. I hope we will see more of them in later books.

There were touching and poignant moments also. My heart was captured from chapter 1 straight through the epilogue. Definitely a top read for me so far this year.

I wish to thank Covenant Communications, Anneka R. Walker and Netgalley for the complimentary ebook. I'm happily and voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This regency romance book will forever live on in in my mind. It was that CUTE and I wasn’t expecting the story that it told!

Cassandra is a stubborn debutante that refuses to be forced into situations that that she doesn’t like. One of them just happens to be and engagement to the man who ruined her plans to make herself seen by the one man she had an interest in.

Tom makes a BIG mistake, one that results in causing the wrong woman embarrassment. When he comes home after his misshap, he finds out that his parents have betrothed him to someone he met as a child. Come to find out after being forced to visit her family, it is the one woman who now loathes him because of his blunder. Now these two must try to figure out how to get out of their engagement, without falling for one another.

If you are a fan of:

Kitten Gifts
A sassy FMC who likes to leave the MMC in a pickle
Dual POV
A Meet-Cute
Laughing OUT LOUD (You will snort)
A Flirtatious MMC
Enemies to LOVERS
Matchmaking mama’s
The rebels (I cannot wait to read the rest of their stories)
First Kisses
A Sweet Regency Read that will stick with you long after your done
Nicknames

Then You really need to pick up this adorable book and read it. You don’t have to read the first book in the series, but I always recommend it because it was also a really good book!

*I received a copy of this book as an ARC reviewer, but a positive review wasn’t required. All thoughts are solely what I personally thought of this beautiful book.❤️❤️❤️

"Loving you has changed me. I wanted to right wrongs for other people, but all along I needed your love to right what was wrong inside of me."

An Unwitting Alliance by Anneka Walker

I can't fully convey how beautiful this story is. This book will be a top read for me this year. It helped me feel seen and it helped me heal.

Theres is an arranged marriage. Their meet-cute is unusual, and so is their slow-burn romance.

Teasing Tom doesn't want to marry. He doesn't want children. He is stubborn, yet caring. He is both a bitter herb and a cinnamon roll. If you've read it, you will know. He comes up with ridiculous nicknames that had me laughing.

Casandra aka Cassie is strong and independent, but desperately wants a family of her own. She doesn't want to marry Tom, but she does want to marry. He ruined her chances in the past at a match and has resented him ever since. Little does she know that he is exactly who his parents and her parents have found for her. Oh boy, her scheming to get rid of him and the tension between them in the beginning was some of the best I've seen in a book.

The scenes with the kittens were some of my favorite parts. It was both hilarious and adorable. I think there should be more animals in books, especially baby animals.

Oh this book was just sooo good. Why has it taken me so long? At first I wasn't really into Matchmaking in books, but as I have read a few books with it, I am growing to love it as a trope. And Anneka writes the trope so well!

Favorite Parts:
Dancing
Colorblindness rep
Meeting her family
Kittens
Food
Shenanigans

Banter
Spanish Tom
Helping the poor
Bit of Mystery
Their Conversations
His Love Confession

Cassandra Vail and Tom Harwood, you two are absolutely adorable!!!! That is all!!!

Ok, just kidding! That's not all. But seriously, these two are really adorable! Especially with Tom and his friends trying to avoid the Matchmaking Mamas (and so far failing miserably, even though they think they're winning)! And I love how those Matchmaking Mamas subtly give advice and then when the friends think they're safe, BAM! The Mamas come out and show how they manipulated situations or moments! They're they BEST!!!!

Back to Cassandra and Tom...

Their first meeting, oh my word! Hilarious and the reason behind it even better! Hahaha! Poor Tom. But definitely poor Cassandra. When it comes out, there's hurt behind it. But Tom is such a gentleman that he truly cares about how Cassandra misunderstood some things that he tries to fix it.

How they come back together was absolutely darling! Makes me love Tom and his mom so much more! Be still my heart! This one is a gentleman, a romantic and an amazing friend at heart!!! Cassandra, darling, I'm sorry to say this but you don't stand a chance! Good luck!!!

I loved the connection of these characters with their families, and each other's family. Cassandra has a big family with several siblings. They're fun and busy and full of life. But I loved reading the scenes with them and how the author wrote Cassandra and Tom interacting with them and showing the friendships there.

And Cassandra and Tom themselves, they're trying so hard to help each other and be friends that they miss the chemistry that is building between them. I thought it was so cute. Tom is just adorable. Cassandra is more reserved when it comes to her feelings. They'll have to work fast to figure it out because there are some twists and turns for them. But they're all worth it because of what they learn!

Content: Clean.

I received a copy from the publisher, Covenant Communications, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

My goodness this series is quickly becoming one of my all time favorites! The plot, the characters, and the romance combined to make a book that you can’t help but love.
I was instantly hooked from the very first chapter. With a beginning like that you can’t help but basically devour the book to know what happens and how things turn out. And Anneka does NOT disappoint!
Tom and Cassandra were spectacular and I loved every minute of their love story. From the cute yet bumbling beginning, to the fun transition from “enemies” to “allies,” and finally the sweet realizations of love. Every moment, every interaction, every misstep and advance in their relationship gave more depth to this story. Their individual struggles and desires made them so real, which not only added to, but made their love story more realistic. The romance was sweet with the perfect amount of anticipatory tension and combustible chemistry.
And of course the rebels. This group of friends is not only funny but so supportive of each other. I am beyond excited to get their stories, and see what else the Matchmaking Mamas come up with.
I could go on and on about how much I loved this book, but I’ll leave it to you to discover how truly incredible this book is. It’s the perfect historical romance novel to get swept away in, you’ll laugh, maybe cry a little, and finish it with a contented and happy sigh.

I received an ARC from the publisher/author. A positive review was not required but happily given.

I absolutely LOVED the second matchmaking mamas book! An Unwitting Alliance takes a different spin on matchmaking than the first book, Bargaining for the Barrister.

Tom has found himself suddenly betrothed to a woman he has never met. A woman who describes herself in a most unflattering light and dreams of becoming a spinster. Ending their engagement should be easy right?

We don’t see our lovely matchmaking mamas, I mean musical society, as much in this one although they do make a few appearances. Their advice for Tom is fantastic and I loved seeing what each one had to say.

One of my favorite parts of this novel was the Rebels. We get to see them so much more and even get to see inside one of their righting of wrongs missions. We witness it all from the initial gathering to the plotting and carrying out of the plan.

Lastly, Anneka R. Walker has done an amazing job writing our main man, Tom, and leading lady, Cassandra. Their personalities, flaws, and relationship building are beautiful and genuine. I love how they compliment each other, test each other, and make the other better.

This wasn’t quite as good as the first book in this series. It definitely had some fun parts and laugh out loud moments. There were also some tender parts. I also really love the rebels. I got frustrated with some of the misunderstandings and miscommunication but overall it was a good read.

4 1/2 Stars of regency delight! When I saw the synopsis for this book on bookstagram, I immediately ran to NetGalley and then binge read it!

Here’s what loved:
• forced engagement (swoon)
• positive family relationships
• slow burn romance
• he falls first
• a daring rescue
• a few pranks

This was such a refreshing read. I was instantly enveloped in the story of Tom and Cassandra. The banter was top notch and I just loved everything about their romance.

Anneka Walker does it again! With a smashing meet cute and some wonderful justice for the unfortunate, we are weaved a tale that will keep you on the balls of your feet bouncing, while waiting for more in this series.

Marriage of convenience is one of my favorite tropes, so a series that is based on matchmaking that these characters (mostly) don't want is right up my ally. The main characters are engaged, contracts signed without their knowledge or approval. And they want out. They both want out. But when they realize who their intended is, there is more that stands in the way of a happily ever after.

She disdains him. He is already half in love. After a chance meeting at a prior ball, believing her to be someone else, he is intrigued by her. But in his efforts to help his friend, he accidently ends up dancing with the wrong woman. Who is she? No one seems to know. And then he sees her again, this time as his fiancé.

The main characters ultimately want the same goal, freedom to choose. They both have walls they need to break down, and slowly they work on their trust of the other person. While helping one another, they are increasingly pulled to each other. They have to decide if they crash into one another, or keep fighting for what they believe is freedom.

Anneka is such a master at allowing tender moments to reside by the silly and laughable. That is a quality I admire and something to aspire for.

An Unwitting Alliance is an absolutely delightful treasure of a book. I adored every page. Each line was well crafted and I loved the humor. There were so very funny moments (Cassie’s original letter to Tom, eggs at breakfast, spicy meals, to name a few). And there were also sweet, kind, and brave moments. I had so many highlights of wonderful quotes and lines in the book, almost the whole thing was all purple. Tom is a book hero I won’t forget any time soon. His side story was wonderful and dear Alan, my heart! I loved the advice Tom would receive from the Mamas. I loved it when the Rebels came. The author does a splendid job with the characters of this story. Each character was done so well, I was sad to see it end, because I will miss my friends.

I received an eARC from the publisher. All views and opinions expressed are my own.

I adored this book! The characters were engaging and it was so fun to jump back into this group of friends again. An Unwitting Alliance is the second book in Anneka R Walker’s Matchingmaking Mama series.
Tom was such a sweet guy! I loved getting to know him more. He seemed like a jokester but he had a kind heart. He deeply cared about those around him but he was scared to let others in. Tom had to learn to let Cassie in and he had to figure out how to show her he loved her.
Cassie was also a great character! She was full of life and she didn’t take no for an answer. She did have to grow on me a little but I ended up really liking her. She wanted to choose her own life path and she didn’t want to settle for anything else. Cassie had to learn to trust Tom and see that he was more than meets the eye.
Oh my goodness, Tom and Cassie were just wonderful. I loved reading about them interacting and falling in love. They were both against falling in love but as they spent more time together, they began to see each other in different lights. I loved reading about their interactions and seeing them match each other. They were a perfect fit. I loved how they made each other better.
An Unwitting Alliance is a must read book! The characters drew me in and I was curious to see how they would end up together. I loved the band of friends and how they came together to help teach others. I am super excited for the next book! An Unwitting Alliance is a clean historical romance.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher through Netgalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, a positive review was not required.

This next book in the Matchmaking Mamas did not disappoint! I absolutely loved how Cassie and Tom met! Awkwardness and misunderstandings, those always make for good stories! I could not believe when they crossed paths again in a way neither thought would happen (and neither did I)! I loved the quirks about Tom, his color blindness and his sense of humor, he definitely kept me laughing and smiling. He had a huge heart of gold and I loved his care for everyone in his life. Cassie was a bright light and her love for her family warmed my heart. She was definitely stubborn but I could not fault her for her feelings towards Tom and for wanting to choose her own path.

Watching their journey was one of the most beautiful things. I loved their common goals of helping others. I loved all of Tom’s friends and his nicknames for them made me smile. How does someone come up with so many nicknames? I think everyone would love to have a group of friends like the Rebels. One of my favorite parts was the advice from the mamas. This is definitely a must read for all regency fans! You do not want to miss An Unwitting Alliance! I received a copy of this book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.! Cassandra Vail returns home from ball where an interfering man embarrasses her while dancing. Returning home she learns her parents have betrothed her. Her intended is the son and heir to a barony and the bans are to read in two short weeks. Tom Harwood is light minded, enjoys a lark and good times with his friends. He is dutiful to his parents and is sure he can charm them into scuttling plans for him to wed soon. He is surprised to learn contracts have been signed and he expected to leave immediately to spend time with his intended at her family home. He arrives hoping to enlist her in schemes to stop the engagement. They are both shocked when they realize they met at the ball.

This is the second in the Matchmaking Mamas series and I’ve enjoyed both books. Tom mis steps more than once not considering how his fun actions impact others. But in their time together, friendship and fondness bloom. His friend group is The Rebels, who try to do good, even if it means breaking some rules. They are the basis for the romances in the series. In this one Tom is asked to check on a local workhouse that seems shady. It adds filler to the story and gives a reason for the Rebels to make an appearance.

I liked this clean Georgian romance. Cassie and her kindness towards her siblings and mother saves the story for me. Tom has the makings of a hero but his leaning hard on his charm to get his way doesn’t endear him to me. But it works for a story arc and you know deep down he is a good man. Thank you to NetGalley and Covenant Communications for the ARC and I will look for the next Rebel romance. I am leaving a voluntary review.

I absolutely loved this next book in the Matchmaking Mama's series by Anneka Walker!! These books are becoming my favorite by this incredibly talented author! She really knows how to write a great first chapter! I have been really excited about getting back to this series since the first book, Bargaining for the Barrister, came out! I liked this second book even more!

In An Unwitting Alliance, Cassie and Tom come to a misunderstanding that puts them both at odds with each other. I absolutely loved the interactions between these two! They had me laughing out loud a few times! The enemies to lovers trope in their book was so well written! That slow-burn romance and when they started to finally become friends was my favorite.

I love when a book has a great male main character with a kind heart but also loves to joke around a lot. Tom was so fun to get to know better. He always cared for those around him but was hesitant to let people in because of past pain he is still trying to get over. I loved watching him learn to trust Cassie and let her help him and vice versa.

Our leading lady was a sassy one and a spitfire and I loved it! She never took no for an answer!

These two characters learn from their mothers that their marriage has been arranged, but upon meeting each other at the ball, they don't know that they are each other's betrothed. When Tom visits his betrothed for the first time at her home, he realizes it's the woman who does not like him one bit because of the unfortunate event that happened at the ball.

Things I especially loved:
- the meet cute
-dual POV (the man falling in love is always my favorite part in a romance)
-The shed scenes
-Tom's disguise
-Meeting little Alan
-And of course Tom and Cassie's first kiss!

If you love books with matchmaking, enemies to friends, to lovers. Hilarious meet cutes and characters that have great chemistry, you should definitely check out An Unwitting Alliance by Anneka Walker when it releases July 11th!

Thanks to the author and netgalley for the opportunity to read an advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own!❤️

I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH!

One of my favorite historical tropes is the marriage first, love second. And this is such a fun take on that trope. Tom and Cassandra are engaged for an arranged marriage by their matchmaking mamas. And I loved seeing them fall in love.

Their meet cute is darling and then disastrous! Such a fun way to introduce them to each other and then give us fun enimies to lovers vibes when they meet again under very different circumstances.

I love Tom's silliness and positivity. His nicknames for everyone are so fun too. But perhaps I loved getting to know his insecurities and fears more. He lost his brother as a child and that has affected his whole outlook on life. Getting to know why he fears commitment and love was a beautiful experience. Only made more beautiful by his love and caring for Cassandra.

Cassandra is such a fun protagonist! She is independent, strong willed and very clever. I love how fiercely she loves her family and how witty she is. Seeing her allow Tom into her life and open up to him was so lovely. I really enjoyed seeing how she could be herself around him and how they build each other up.

Loved getting to see the Rebels in this one! And how they rally to the cause of sweet Alan. The plot had a lot of surprising twists and I wasn't sure how they could find their happily ever after but how lovely when they did!

Already reading book 3!

Cassandra (Cassie) and Tom have a very unfortunate meet cute at a local ball, where instead of falling in love, she just falls, hard, twisting her ankle and leaving with the incorrect information that Tom did it out of spite.

Then three to four weeks later they each find out that they are betrothed, to EACH OTHER! Neither h wants to marry, let alone marry the other. But the match making mamas have colluded again, and they need to make an unwitting alliance to keep the engagement a secret until they can convince their parents to withdraw the contract.

With a household of children, a very pregnant mother, a jealous neighbor, and a workhouse dilemma, Cassie and Tom must band together; what neither was betting on was them falling for each other in the process.

And don’t worry, all the Rebels make a cameo at least once!

Read if you enjoy sweet, clean regency romance with a touch of adventure and a lot of matchmaking!

Thanks Anneka and @covenantcommunications for allowing me to be on your ARC team again for the second installment of the matchmaking mamas! All thoughts an opinions are my own.

Tom Harwood is the victim of matchmaking mamas. He has determined to do anything to get out of their snare, even make an alliance with his reluctant fiancé. Surely she is against marrying a stranger too? But when Tom meets his fiancé in person he discovers that she’s the same woman he met at a ball a month ago. She was charming, they flirted, he accidentally embarrassed her, and realized she wasn’t the woman his friend had directed him to and he had no idea who the mystery woman was at all. He still doesn’t want the matchmakers to win, but could they have picked his ideal woman after all? Now he just needs to convince his fiancé that he’s the right man for her.

I loved Cassandra and Tom’s meeting, and their subsequent courtship (or attempts to escape from it). The dialogue was witty and there were plenty of funny and awkward situations. The Matchmaking Mamas nailed this pairing and I can’t wait to see who their next victim is!

“Have we cleared up any confusion?” “While I am connected to you, I am only yours.”

Such a fun story, with lots of heart, teasing, flirting, and laughs. I loved Tom and Cassie together even when she was determined to hate him. I enjoyed seeing Cassie help Tom heal from his past pain.
I loved so many things in this book: Tom’s disguise, the spinster accessories, the Matchmaking Mama’s notes, the Rebel’s and how they all came together when Tom needed them, all of Tom’s nicknames for people, his interactions with Cassie’s siblings especially little Pumpkin! 🫠

Few more favorites: “And what future do you want?” He smiled. “I see my future when I look at you. But if you don’t see me next to you right away, consider looking for as long as it takes until you do. I’ll be waiting.”

“My own family.” Tom shook his head. “A dream I did not even know I had.”

An Unwitting Alliance was a delightful story, featuring Cassie and Tom as the main characters. Their meet cute was adorable, with some mistaken identity thrown in at a ball. The story progresses with an arranged engagement set up by their mothers. I loved watching them get to know each other. Tom's teasing nature was so fun, he was truly a joyful character.

A few parts of the story did seem to drag a bit, but overall, this was a lighthearted, entertaining story that I recommend for anyone who loves a good Regency romance!

Thank you to Covenant Communications, NetGalley, and Anneka Walker for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest opinions.

This is a fun series. As part of the older and wiser generation, I can appreciate the wisdom of the Mama's. This one was a bit more extreme than the last where it was actually a bethrothal, but it added to the spice. The small side stories weren't anything too exciting. I loved the banter between the two. I actually wrote a similar introduction letter to someone (well, email at the time) and spouted a bunch of nonsense and he still wrote back, so that part of it touched me especially. I am now married to him so... :) I think if they would have communicated better, they wouldn't have had so much drama. It's amazing how something from childhood can stick to you and effect your choices as an adult.

Surprising the whole way through. The first part felt a little slow but as the story geared up the pace was really engaging and unpredictable.
