This volume kinda fell short for me, idk it feels like a turning point in the series? And lowkey that last chapter was just...one of the most awkward things...

Misao and Kyo finally consummate their relationship after volumes of "but no, I shouldn't" on Kyo's part. I rather like that Misao was consistently offering, and Kyo was reluctant (well, until it came to the crucial moment, but that's understandable. being a horny virgin and being a self-assured sexual partner are two different things). I rather dislike that a character who was just introduced a volume ago basically forced them into making love so that Kyo wouldn't die. It would have been much more satisfactory if they'd made a conscious decision after weighing the costs.

As somewhat implied above, the storytelling in this manga falters at times, and is often subject to the serial's curse of introducing new characters and situations with no lead-up or foreshadowing to substantiate them. Still, I like this couple and their loyalty toward each other. A lot of Misao's inner dialogue shows the reader that she is not conflicted about her decision to be with Kyo, and is facing the consequences with open eyes.

There haven't been any rape scenarios for a couple of volumes, thank goodness. I'm interested in seeing what happens after the (forcible) honeymoon.

that was just......awkward. But that was just....yuck. Also... I'm sick of hearing her say "OMG, i love him!" *five seconds later a fight breaks out between them* "Am i doing the right thing?" *a few seconds after this he kisses her* "OMG, I LOVE HIM!"....seriously?

Finally! After all that uncertainty it did in fact become inevitable that Kyo made love to Misao due to necessity.
I kind of like Kyo's dominant character, and Misao is caring and cute but I wish she was a bit stronger, not always cowering before Kyo if she said something stupid.

Ugh, I'm so confused, I don't like tsundere characters but I don't like overly soft and damsel-like characters either T.T

Still, I wonder what will happen after that last scene?

Oh man I was a bit worried because this volume seemed to be going in a really dark direction but the ending was so great. Finally Misao and Kyo were able to overcome all the doubts and danger and make love. It was drawn in a really artistically beautiful and romantic way. I am excited to see where this development will lead them.

Trigger warnings for blood kink, mentions of suicide,

The sex scene contains a visual metaphor of a hawk hunting, diving, and then tearing a piece of flesh off an unseen animal. I find this metaphor tasteless and disturbing. Is she being raped? No. But she cries the whole time and the idea that having her hymen broken by Kyo is the same as a predator killing its prey is abhorrent to me.

¿Te gustan los mangas?--- http://bit.ly/2oSbJo2

description

I have a love-hate relationship with this volume! Absolutely love how far Misao is willing to go for Kyo and vice versa! They are truly perfect for each other. But that last chapter was hot at first, but that metaphor was unnecessary and made the whole scene icky. I don't know. I just got a weird vibe from it. Though them finally being together makes me so happy!! Just a certain metaphor should have been left out

'Misao is the bride of prophecy whose blood gives power to the demon who claims her. But most demons want to keep her power for themselves - by eating her! Now Misao is just trying to stay alive...'

This volume was the second half of the Raikoh plot arc, though I'm pretty sure he'll be around for a while longer. :)

The reason why this volume doesn't get five stars from me is that it was rather slow-paced, even though it should have been tense and dramatic. I mean, I was even able to put it down for a couple of hours in order to make collections on my Kindle! Also, I think I was kind of expecting an epic battle or showdown and this just didn't happen. I suppose because it's shoujo, but still. It was a bit of a disappointment.

Aside from that, I loved it. I mean, Kyo and Misao were really forced to make a hard decision in this volume and I thought that it was handled wonderfully. It was logical, practical and heart-wrenching. However, I dislike the whole idea that Misao would rather die than live without Kyo. I mean, I get that it's a love story and this is 'young love', but really... blech. Cliché and melodramatic.

But... The art was just stunning in the last chapter of the volume, and I don't think it could have been any better. I loved every page of that. Just... beautiful. <3

I think there's going to be quite a big shift in the manga from now on. I'm looking forward to seeing how all the other characters handle the events that happened in this one. Weirdly, I'd usually expect this to be the end... but I'm really glad it isn't. :)

This is my favorite volume of the 8 so far. Top tier compared to some of the other ones. The whole will they, won't they tug of war is finally decided in this volume and I was living for it. This is 100% nostalgia trash for me, but this volume just worked for me. So much fun! 5 stars upon reread

My 2012 review

Black Bird volume 8 by Kanoko Sakurakouji

5 stars

Since I said in my last review of Black Bird volume 7 that I would talk about what this book is about instead of raving about it, here goes. Black Bird follows Misao a schoolgirl that can see demons and ghosts. One day she comes home and finds Kyo her long lost neighbor that she has no recollection about and he’s a tengu, a demon, and she’s the Senka Maiden a person demons will be after to gain power. OMG! I’m so addicted to Black Bird… I think it explains why when I do shop for manga (which I only do in the summer) I buy out most of the volumes and indulge in the mystical world created. Kyo… I love you… it’s a simple as that…OK well maybe not simple, but I love him. Misao has her good and bad moments like most heroines, but I always seem to like Misao even in times where I should want to smack her. Raiko was growing on me, I started to like him. Now I respect him a villain in this series, but he can rot for being mean to Kyo. I hope not giving anything away. I’m trying not to but it’s really hard. These books are my addiction and that’s all I shall say for now.

As I said in the last volume's review, Raikoh Watanabe is a presumptuous prick who needs a serious ass whooping. Black Bird, Volume 8 starts off with some predictable action and ends pretty blandly. I feel like in the last few volumes I have been waiting for something exciting to happen. There was a teeny taste of excitement when the demons descended, but it was over in a blink of an eye.

This next volume better get good. My interest is quickly dissipating. I don't want my OCD to be the reason I'm compelled to finish this series.

This story follows Misao, a high schooler who can see the magical creatures and spirits that are invisible to everyone else. This gift is merely an annoyance until her sixteenth birthday, when she gets attacked by a demon and discovers that she is the Senka Maiden, or bride of prophecy – a human whose blood gives unlimited power to the demon who claims her. Her childhood friend Kyo appears in time to save her, though it turns out he is a demon as well! Kyo is the leader of the Tengu (crow demon) clan, thus the name of the story. His intentions to protect her, however, seem to be pure – and Misao allows him to lick her wounds long enough to fall in love with him herself. Together they must face the challenges that come from courting the Senka Maiden, as well as the curse that befalls her once she bears the child of a demon.

This was a fantastic story! The characters were well done with bold personality traits: we can clearly see Kyo’s determination, his brother Soh’s treachery and underhandedness, the Daitengu’s loyalty, even Misao’s simultaneous naivety and bravery. And I absolutely loved the plot. Unlike Demon Spell (another manga featuring demons of Japanese culture), the story was very complete, with no detail left unexplained or unaccounted for.

*SPOILER ALERT* But my favorite part of all has to be the ending. Misao’s pregnancy is meant to lead to her death, but just when all seems to be lost, hope appears. Even if their ending isn’t perfect, it is happy, and you find yourself happy and grateful for the imperfection because it shows you how much worse things could have been.

I have more to say on this book (and others!) in my blog! Check it out here:

The story continues Raikou's deceitful fear mongering tactics to separate Kyou and Misao. After cleverly placing a deadly curse on Kyou's body that will kill him in a few days unless Misao promises to marry him instead (yes, the jerk is delusional, and Misao's dad actually wants a Misao/Raikou pairing for some nonsensical reason).

Kyou isn't willing to kill Raikou, so it's up to Misao to make a difficult decision which surely will have huge implications for the plot. Sadly, I can't spoil how this volume will end!

Once again Kyo and Misao’s love is tested, but this time a demon hunter has come into the mix. But is Kyo’s strength enough? Is Misao really in love with Kyo or is she really possessed?

The so called demon hunter thinks Misao is only possessed, while Misao is determined to prove to him it is in fact love. The line between humans and demons is drawn and Misao knows she much choose, but who will she choose?

Misao is really pushed personally in this manga, because she realizes she may have to give up on humanity and maybe on her family. But is Kyo enough for all that she is sacrificing?

Cheers lovelies.

Okay. So this rating is complicated. I really overly enjoyed this one. The plot and art is great.

HOWEVER.
This is rated "OT+" but it should seriously be rated "MA/Explicit" because seriously. The entire last chapter is smut. Very well drawn and detailed smut. So come on. Rate the series correctly, like oh my god....

Freaking Raikoh! He comes in sword blazing, screwing everything up. Misao tries to work things out with him, but he goes rogue. As much as it makes for a great plot point, he annoys the crap out of me. A bunch of things are all starting to happen at once and things are being set into motion. There's some significant developments between Kyo and Misao this volume as well.

Misao and Kyo finally consummate their love in this one - A long time coming but really nicely done - artwork is great. Talk about ending on a cliff hanger though... Just how doomed are our lovers? Nice to see them get a little bit of happiness. Plot isn't bad either - we get a tense confrontation between Kyo and the fanatical demon hunter with empowered sword.

This was a good volume, but this volume really has me questioning if the teen graphic novel section (where this is currently filed in our library system) is the best place for it, many of the themes seem much more suited to the adult section, and this volume has just made it seem even more so for me.
Still it is a good series.

Extremely well written volume! I was sucked in from the beginning and couldn’t put it down. The progressing story line with Misao, Kyo, and Raikoh kept me on the edge of my seat! The drawings are particularly beautiful in this volume as well. I always love drawings of cherry blossoms. So beautiful!

Man who can banish demons is named Raikoh and put a spell on the couple. He says the spell will kill Kyo if he doesn’t leave Misao. Or an alternative is to sleep with her. It’s very awkward and we start to see the male main character as a demon who wants the Senkai Maiden for who she is but won’t force his love but does.

Honestly, the only thing that saved this issue for me was the sex.

The rest of the chapters were just: drama drama drama drama aaaaand more drama

Not that drama is a bad thing, but it was the same kind of drama since the beginning of the manga. It grew old really quickly.
