Jo Banks #2

Satan's Pony

Rate this book
Hathaway's likeable young doctor, Jo Banks, is solidly ensconced as "house doctor" to a group of motels in the New Jersey countryside. Then one day the motel where Jo is living and where she has her office is suddenly over run by a loud group of motorcyclists. When one of the riders is murdered, suspicion falls on Dr. Jo's landlord's son, who turned up after having been presumed either to have permanently gone AWOL or to be lost in battle in Vietnam. Trying to help her friends, and prove that the man is innocent, Jo takes on a lot more than she may be able to handle.

Robin graduated from Germantown Friends School and Smith College (BA/English). While her two daughters were young she owned and operated a printing/advertising firm Barnhouse Press from her home (there was a printing press in the barn and one in the house) and did freelance writing and photography. One daughter claims she was lulled to sleep by the methodical beat of a printing press in the kitchen and a close friend claimed she once found ink in her mashed potatoes!

But Robin had always wanted to write, and on her 50th birthday her husband told her, "It's now or never." So she began. She wrote three mystery novels in three years featuring Dr. Andrew Fenimore, an old-fashioned cardiologist who still made house calls. Robin's amateur sleuth was patterned after her husband, who just happened to also be a cardiologist.

When Robin isn't writing, she does free lance editing, teaches mystery writing, and lectures on the mystery novel at schools, libraries, and other institutions. Her short stories have appeared in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, Arthur Hitchcock Mystery Magazine and Death Knell.
Robin divides her time between Philadelphia and New York City.

SUMMARY: In this second in the Dr. Jo Banks mysteries, a motorcycle gang disrupting the normal peace and quiet of the Oakview Motor Lodge is bad enough, but when one of the bikers winds up dead and Jo’s old paperboy-turned-biker is the prime suspect, Jo finds herself protecting him as she looks for the real killer. COMMENTS: Not quite as good as the first in the series (Scarecrow), but entertaining nonetheless.

I read this because it's a biker-gang story and I've always had a weakness for a good biker tale.
It was a fun read and I'm impressed that author Hathaway started her writing career at age 50. But this novel wasn't strong enough for me to put her on my must-read list.

I really wanted to like this book more than I did. I've been a big fan of the author since I read Scarecrow and one of her Dr. Fenimore series books. However, the story didn't hold my interest as closely as the first book in the series did. There were also quite a few grammatical errors that were hard to overlook, but that might fall more on the editors than anyone else. I can't recommend it as a 'must-read' but it was readable and somewhat enjoyable (although a little predictable at times). If you're a fan of phragmites, there's a lot of references to the wild reed throughout the book. I'll end it here before I start making bad puns.

Lots of Hogs and Kisses! Ms Hathaway takes on a very stereotypical motorcycle club, with tongue in cheek. Her description of theses guys was perfect, why DO they all look alike?

Silly, simple story, now I have to tackle Book #3 to see what Jo’s next adventure will be".

The reason I rate this book four out of five stars because it was a interesting book to read of mystery and unrated violence. This fascinating book had some similarities between reality in school. A biker name Archie but he is now known as Pi that Archie was helping a women fixing her motorcycle that the relation between reality in school is bullies who tease kids or pick on kids that sometimes a bully will change and become helpful and successful student. Archie is my favorite character in this book that I really admire him.

This book was the first mystery book I have ever read that had became one of my favorite books. This book has 209 pages and 40 chapters which is pretty short book but I loved it. If I met the author I would ask him ''what expired you to write this book?''
The book has some inappropriate words but that doesn't affect the book from being horrible. The reason why the title of the book is named 'Satan's Pony' because Archie the top biker in his gang is his motorcycle which is probably good name for a bike but not for a human being.

Archie known as Pi is the brightest of the gang that before he became biker he won a scholarship to MIT which is some type of school which is hard to get into but I don't really know if its a real school. Archie doesn't want his biker friends to know but I think it one of his best personalities. This book can probably be a fast pacing book in my opinion. I read this book once before but I decided to read it again so I wont forget it. This book has became one of my favorite books which motivated me to not to do things and make the right choices

#2 in the Jo Banks series. Ex-NYC doctor Banks is now plying her profession in South Jersey. An endearing series by the late (2013) Robin Hathaway.

Dr. Jo Banks series - Now the house doctor for area motels, Jo has settled into a comfortable life. This is upset when a motorcycle club moves in. Pi, the leader, turns out to be a former acquaintance of Jo and arouses jealousy in boyfriend Tom. When one of the club is murdered, Pi is the prime suspect and disbelieving Jo determines to solve the crime.
