The Odyssey of Robert Peake follows the adventures of an impoverished young man seeking a better life from his home in 17th century England, and his treacherous two-month voyage to the Virginia Colony, which almost ends in tragedy. He is indentured to work as a fieldhand on a tobacco plantation, where he encounters a brutal, whip-brandishing overseer. His life takes an unexpected turn when the plantation owner, who recognizes young Robert’s greater potential, intercedes and assigns him to his windmill team. Life in the historic Virginia Colony has its share of tragedies involving Native American massacres, road bandits, river pirates and murder. On the lighter side, Robert has a brief shipboard romance and later falls deeply in love with a beautiful Powhatan maiden, niece of Pocahontas. He has a natural talent for tending to horses and becomes a coachman. He voices his disapproval of the use of the African slave labor force being introduced on the plantations, so, he decides to seek a better life on the untamed Virginia frontier, which provides him with new challenges.
