As the regular Heartland series nears the end, Amy's sister, Lou, is getting married and Amy must make important decisions about her future at Heartland. This is the next-to-last book!
As Amy's sister Lou is finalizing her wedding details, Amy is contemplating her own plans for the future. She is a senior, and the scores for the SAT that she had taken to appease her grandfather have arrived and are unexpectedly impressive. Now Amy, who had never considered her life beyond Heartland, is thinking of college - but chooses not to reveal this struggle to her family or Ty. With the distraction of a lost pony that unexpectedly shows up one snowy morning, and the constant arrival of wedding gifts, Amy is able to conceal her secret, but soon life will force her to make a decision.
Lauren Brooke grew up in a ranch in Virginia and now lives in Leicestershire, England. Her husband is a veterinarian who specializes in horses. Her books have been published by Scholastic since Mid-2000, starting with the first book of the Heartland book series. The first book of her popular Chestnut Hill series was published in 2005.
According to an interview on scholastics' website, Lauren Brooke has been riding since before she could walk. She also said she competes in a few local-level horse shows and events.
There may be some other people in books and movies named Lauren Brooke: Amazon lists the author of "Book of spiritual regeneration" (1995) as Lauren Brooke. IMDB.com has a record for an Actress named Lauren Brooke. Her only movie is "Wiseguys vs. Zombies" (2003) as Goat Man's Wife.
I thought as an adult, I was mostly past these books being relevant to my life and nothing more than a still enjoyable series to read that still made me feel things. All of this is the truth- I laughed and cried at this book and still loved Lou's wedding.
However, this one is relevant to me again. Amy's decisions about her future and what she should do after school hit me this time, because I've finally made a decision of my own to go back to university. This time, it's in a completely different field to my undergraduate degree was and I'm not 100% sure what I'd do with it yet. But I know I really want to do it. Amy's doubt and reluctance to leave her work at Heartland behind for the next few years were things I felt. I've never had to move away from home for uni which I'm glad for, but I don't know where the future will take me and yes, that is scary while it's also exciting.
Only the final book and the companion novel to go in this reread.
this book held lots of themes that I myself connect to because I’m in the same stage of life. the thoughts leading to a crossroads that leads to lots of different choices. I’m sad to finish this series and move on after I finish the next three but I’ve learned valuable lessons while reading this series and that makes up for what I don’t like about the books.
Wedding plans are in full swing, but the weather is not cooperating. Neither is a mystery pony who appeared at Heartland, a pony that has a nasty cough that could be an allergy. When Amy realizes that the pony's owner, a young boy in foster care, has been stowed away at Heartland, they begin searching for him - in the middle of a blizzard! Meanwhile, Amy discovers that her SAT scores are good enough that she could apply for a pre-vet program. But could she ever leave Heartland?
It's interesting to see how this series is coming to a conclusion. While in most series, the characters don't age (and Amy does seem to have been in high school for an awful long time), Amy is clearing growing up and thinking about her future. Lou's marriage is just the first of a major event that will change Heartland. Amy seems to have made a decision at the end of this book, but she still hasn't told anyone yet - including Ty.
Story wise, I really liked this one, which is what saved it from a lower rating. Again, there were inconsistencies. One of the horses had found a new home last book but was still there in this one? Also, Ben, where was he? Previous books had set up for him to come to the wedding. Still, the storyline here was one of the better ones of the series. Amy, Soraya, and Matt are now seniors and looking toward the future. We have the wedding prep and then the wedding itself at the end. We had a mystery horse show up and a missing boy. Things were dramatic but not overly angsty, which I appreciated. I am looking forward to seeing how things wrap up in the next book and then reading the special editions.
Scott and Lou married as this should have also been the case with the TV series. Amy decides to go to college but has only told Matt. Overall so many things happened in this one, with the two events posted above being the main two in my opinion. Matt decides to become a doctor after he and Amy save a little boy and his horse. To find out so more you need to read this one.
My reviews do not give much away but I hope they persuade you to read the book.
It's hard to believe that this series was only twenty books and this is almost the end. Lou, Amy's sister, is getting married. Amy is wondering what will happen to the family and to Heartland after her wedding is over. Should Amy go to college? Should she just stay at Heartland and continue caring for horses? She goes through a real mental struggle. I have to admit Lou is not my favorite character in the series. I won't really miss her.
This made me so nostalgic for farm life in the snow and so excited that this is the first full winter that I'll be able to spend on our farm in 5 years! I cannot wait for cold, cold mornings and big, thick jumpers, and that's all I could think about when reading this!
These books just keep getting better. I wish they had made this one into an episode because between Amy contemplating her future after high school and the snowy rescue it was exciting. I love that in the books it's Amy who is considering being a vet, but I get why the show made it Ty.
My favorite part was when Amy decided that she was going to go to learn how to be a vet. My leats favrite aprt was when Evan ran away, and almost froze, becuase Tiger was allergic to something.

C’est toujours aussi agréable à lire. J’ai beaucoup aimé la présence de Matt dans ce tome ci et j’ai trouvé le sujet de l’orientation pour les études supérieurs bien amenés pour un livre jeunesse !
Another great read by Lauren Brooke! I am nearing the end of the series now and I will miss all the stories about the characters and horses who live at Heartland. 🥲
In this story of bright futures, exciting prospects and new adventures, we re-join Amy in her world of working on her Mother’s ranch, helping horses overcome their fears and reuniting them with their owners. But through the speeding days of life and her older sister, Lou’s, wedding fast approaching, Amy is left to wonder what she should do in her next step of life with all of this change surrounding her? After finishing her school year with high scores, Amy starts to think of all of the new opportunities these results have opened up for her… including college. But will Amy be able to follow her heart or will the loss of leaving the home, people and family support she has always know around Heartland be too much of a sacrifice?? ❤️
*Feel free to check out my overview for the Heartland series over on my Substack blog:
From this Day on is one of the books that now I have reread it, I shall be getting rid of. I used to love this series and although I do still get a little enjoyment out of them I have grown out of the series and need to free up room on my shelves (not buying so many new books would help as well).
Heartland is a series of books set on a horse farm that deals with horses with a variety of issues such as behavioural problems. This is the second last in the series and starts to tie everything up. Amy receives her SAT scores and they are better than expected which makes her start to consider college, something she had not given much thought to until now, and her older sister is about to get married from a relationship we see from the beginning.
This is a nice little story but I do find that each book follows the same sort of concept. This was an enjoyable read but as I have grown out of the series (I don’t find it’s one that can be carried into adulthood) I will be giving this book, and the rest of the series, to charity.
1. I decided to read this book because the cover looked interesting and deep.
2. The book fitting into my bingo board being "writing by a female author". This book was interesting because it had a few different events happening at the same time.
3. A quote from this book was: "Right now,all the horses are stabled in the barn" I like this quote because it sets the scene really well.
4. Something i learnt from this book was to never give up and take time to think about big decisions.
5. A setting that was interesting to me was when Amy was looking for Evan and she rode up the snowy mountain.
I thought at first this book would just be about a girl who loved horses, but I found out that there was more to running a horse farm than just loving horses. Amy also looks to her future while she helps her big sister Lou plan her wedding. Amy's SAT scores make a big difference in how she thinks about her future. I think Amy should be open to new opportunities.
I ended up reading this one first before the last one by mistake. I am kind of glad I did. For anybody who loves the Canadian TV series of the same title or those who love horses will love this series.
Amy is growing up, thinking about college and making plans. I thought this was a good addition to this series and a build to the conclusion that has been a long time coming.
