Looks at the history of horror films based on the stories of deranged killers, including Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Jack the Ripper, and Hitchcock's Norman Bates from the movie Psycho
I first read this when it was initially published in 1986 and enjoyed it. I was a teen then, so I decided to go back to it and see how it holds up under my now more knowledgeable film eye.

McCarty has a love of film, and a lot of what he writes in this book has a personal slant to it. That makes it far more relatable than a lot of film books. His examinations of "psychos" throughout film and made-for-television-films history is refreshing and nuanced. And, most importantly, it reminded me of some films I had forgotten about.
