Nestled deep in the endless pine forests and powder white dunes of the Gulf Coast sits a place like no other. A home where secrets are safe and family is everything.
Welcome to Haven House.
Evangeline Eddins despises change, preferring to live a life of routine safely inside the walls of Haven House. But when the sanctity of her home is violated, Evie has to accept that things can’t always remain the same. This includes her relationship with Samuel Fairweather, the man once meant to become her stepbrother.
The pair’s love-hate relationship reaches a turning point as evidence found in a string of serial homicides leads authorities straight to their already fragile family. With the FBI at the door, and their tumultuous past returning to haunt them, Samuel and Evie must decide which secrets to tell and which to keep before it’s too late.
Set against the history of Haven House, told in the voices of four uniquely different women, this twisted tale of love and betrayal reminds us that perspective is everything and avoiding one's destiny is never truly possible.
The Secrets That You Keep is book one in a completed duet under the Haven House romance series. It ends on a cliffhanger and is intended for mature audiences. Content warnings can be found on the author's website.
Can we just start with the cliffhanger…. 🤯🤯🤯 I’m ITCHING to read the next book. I received an ARC of this book by the very generous author. This book was absolutely captivating from the start. I will admit the “family” dynamics were pretty hard to understand at first (for me personally—I was thankful for that family tree) but once you catch on it’s super easy! The amount of twists and turns this took me on was insane. I have a few theories on the cliffhanger and where the next book—Our Lips Are Sealed— is taking us and I cannot wait to test those theories and get another thrill of a lifetime with book 2! Will highly recommend this to all my bookish friends 🥰
First I will not say any spoilers. Second GO READ THIS BOOK AS SOON AS ITS RELEASED!! I was blessed with an ARC read of this wonderful book and I have to say I loved it. It will keep you guessing even pass the ending because yes there is a book two. The ending may be a cliffhanger but it was very well done.. I highly recommend this to everyone. I was told it was a mix of This Is Us, The Haunting of Hill House and Mindhunters and I have to 100% agree with that.
I received this book as an ARC for my honest review. I teetered on making it 4 stars or 5, but ultimately settled on 4. It has dual timelines, which I enjoy in books. The family tree in the beginning definitely came in handy, keeping everyone straight. Loved the slow burn, forbidden romance. Enemies to lovers worked for me as well, I loved the dynamic. This book is quite spicy. The mystery part is where it lost me a little bit, but I'm expecting it to wrap up well in the second book.

I'm so mad. So so so mad. Scathing when I finished this.
First of all - there are wayyyy too many characters and their family tree is way too complicated. I get that it's part of the plot and supposed to be convoluted on purpose. However, the first 100 or so pages it is annoying being like "who is that again, and how are they related to xxxxx?" I do appreciate the author included a family tree drawing to reference back to - however on Kindle, this was frustrating having to go back to it, where as in a physical printed book it would be much easier to flip back and forth to reference the family tree, because I definitely needed it almost the entire book.
Second - not only are there a million characters to try to keep track of, you get POV from at least 10 of them. Wayyyyyy too much. And, and, wait for it, different timelines with each different POVs. So not only are you not sure of who is who, let alone their ages, now you're thrown into a different year and some are babies, or not born yet and you still don't know who is who. One minute you're reading an Evie present day chapter, then you're reading a Laura Jean chapter from 40 years before, then an Evie present day chapter again, then an Evie at age 12 chapter, then Rebecca 5 years ago and you find yourself going 'who the hell is Rebecca and what year is it?'. The non-chronological jumps in timelines along with multiple POVs sprinkled throughout past and present POVs only added to the confusion. Please just pick a lane. Either tell the story chronologically with switching POVs, or jump timelines but keep it between 1 or 2 POV.
Will block the remainder for spoilers, just in case because I'm letting it all loose.
There are so many mysteries rolled into this book and you will be hooked practically at page one! The story switches between past and present slowly providing some answers to burning questions and I enjoyed the flow. You really get to know all of the characters and root for them. And the there is the murder mystery that has you looking at everything trying to guess who might be responsible.
The book ends with a promise for continuation in the next installment and I absolutely cannot wait for the next one to become available. I still have so many questions and also a theory that I can’t wait to find out if I guessed right or not!
This is the first chance I have ever had to be an ARC reader and I am so glad it was such a good one!
SO GOOD!! This book mesmerized me from the beginning and I love it!! It does end on a cliffhanger so I immediately bought book two and am diving in now.
All the best things wrapped into one? Thriller/Mystery, Slow Burn, Romance AND smut?! Sign me uppppppp! This was a really great read and different compared to some of the things I have been reading lately. I didn’t know how to take the cliffhanger and I really like it because I can usually figure out a book with the quickness and ruin it for myself. 😅😂 This one, I genuinely have no clue who may be guilty. Am I forming an idea? Maybeeeeeee. I’m excited to dive into the next book and see where it goes from here!

I was fortunate to receive a copy as an ARC reader. I was sucked in from the beginning and it didn’t let up! The complexity of the storyline is laid out expertly. I was invested in the characters from the start. I read it in a matter of days because I couldn’t put it down. I recommend it wholeheartedly! Get it and be prepared to sit back and enjoy the ride as you are taken on a journey of love and loss, suspense, and excitement.
5 stars is not enough!!! I can not begin to describe how amazing this book is! The writing is absolutely amazing, the story is phenomenal, the suspense is just right. Chole’s writing is truly amazing, I never thought I would laugh so much when I started this book. The book reads very quickly for a 500+ page book. The story follows the Fairweather family and the twisted family tree. The MFC Evie is an extremely lovable character and the MMC, Samuel would definitely agree. We follow the family through the past and present. What will the future hold for this family?
No surprise here, it’s still 5 stars for my reread, and I annotated the hell out of it this time. Reading it after I know what happens and catching new things, Chloe is such a genius and her writing is top tier.
The tension. The mystery. The secrets. The POV’s. The timelines. The SPICE.
I have so many similarities with Evie. She is my girl. And Samuel? 🥵
That is all. Enjoy.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book has had me in a chokehold and I IMMEDIATELY downloaded book two of the duet. I love the multiple POV’s, the flashbacks, the mystery, the house full of mistresses and children, the “what in the world is happening right now”, and “why are these people not in the present day accounts”. The slow burn forbidden romance? Help me 🌶️🌶️🌶️
I can’t even give you an overview without spoilers. This is mysterious, thrilling, traumatic, emotional, romantic. It has a supernatural, eerie feel, but so far nothing has been confirmed. The family dynamic is very unique and you will come to love the connection between these adult children once you put together the puzzle of who goes to which rich brother 😂 It’s confusing, but all falls into place. And the murder mystery that gets pushed into book two? Oh, the author knew how to drag me in.
The Secrets That You Keep is book one in a duet, and to say it was a fun reading experience is an understatement. In my opinion, this is not a casual read, and you should take your time with it. The book makes you think by unveiling little tidbits of information that blow up in your face later on. The "family" is a mixture of both blood relations and friendships. Make sure you utilize the tree at the start of the book. Once you do, gaining your bearings with who is who doesn't take long. The story starts with the slow burn romance, and immediately you know Evie and Samuel have history. As we move through that storyline, you're then dropped on your head when an FBI agent comes to the house with even more insanity. Plus, there's a super underlining creep factor happening with ghosts and that cryptic prologue that I have a feeling will play out in book two. If you're looking for something with spice, know that it doesn't come until late in the book, but oh my, is it SO worth the wait. I loved all the characters, but I've become particularly attached to the women in the past. I have my theories on how this will end, and I can't wait to see if I'm right.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. This slow burn romance/family saga/mystery is everything you want in a story. It was fun, engaging, and I was hooked from the start. I loved how well the characters were developed in both the past and present timelines. Do yourself a favor and READ THIS BOOK!
Get ready to clutch your pearls, read backwards, screenshot passages, take notes......and cold showers. This Rollercoaster is worth the ride! My only question..........where's there rest?!? The cliffhanger will have you screaming, bawling and clawing for answers!
This is a reader's read. It is a complex story with two distinct timelines and a large cast of diverse characters. The romance aspect is slow burn with tons of history between the main characters.
The intricacies between all the characters are thoughtfully developed and purposeful. In my humble opinion, this is not a book to be read with other books. I say this because you need to have the bandwidth to absorb the dynamics of all the characters and should take the time to appreciate the relationships that have been built and how they develop over the course of the plot. To clarify, I am one who usually has 3-5 books going at a time, I read based on my mood.
If you enjoy immersive reading and characters that will make you cry, want to throw your book out the window, and you can relate to on a deep level (all of these emotions can be felt simultaneously and individually) then this is something I would recommend. I'm not kidding. I feel with absolute confidence that you could drop me off at Haven House and I could find my way around without issue (I even think I could navigate the killer trees).
If you want something casual and lighthearted, this may not be your favorite. But I think anyone who enjoys contemporary slow burn romance with some added familial chaos should give this a shot. You won't be disappointed.
I am shooketh! I have sooo many questions that I am hoping to find out in the second book. As far as this read goes… At first I was a bit confused with the new characters being introduced and had to rely heavily on the family tree. I recommend familiarizing yourself with it and keep it in mind while trying to piece the family together. Other than that is was a really great read and I enjoyed all the finer details. Definitely an on-the-edge page turner to say the least! The slow burn romance was perfect, just enough to spark your interest. If you are looking for a head-scratching mystery mixed with a little bit of eeriness and a dash of love/romance…. Then this is the book for you!!!
Definitely anticipating the release of the next book!
This book is a must read! I honestly couldn't put it down. I used to be an avid reader but being a mom, I haven't been able to find the time. I decided to give this book a try and am so glad I did. It has refreshed my love of reading and I cannot wait for the 2nd book in the series. It has mystery, it has you guessing at every turn, steamy scenes and just when you think you know what is going to happen next, the author throws another curve ball. Get this book!
I received an ARC copy of this debut novel. This book goes through the story of Haven House and the ladies that occupied it but mainly the daughter of Laura Jean, Evie. Evie lives in a crazy family tree but it’s her family and she wouldn’t change it for the life of her.
There is a lot of hurt that the family encounters but also dealing with some different mysteries. The family definitely loves to keep their secrets even if they all think they are open with one another.
Everyone also love a slow burn romance right? Because I definitely loved this romance in this book. It made me stop and reread some sentences and boy let me tell you, your gonna love Samuel 🥵🥵
Keep the family tree handy because I used it through the book constantly to make sure I was understanding everything correctly!
This book keep me so captivated I finished reading it in 2.5 days. The different points of view are very intriguing. It is a little hard to keep the characters straight in the very beginning but the family tree that is provided helps you catch on quickly. The writing makes you feel like you are actually there in the book. Full of suspense and family drama and ends on a slight cliff hanger. I cant wait for the next book!
I signed up to be an ARC reader for this book because in the blurb it mentions that it's set in the Gulf Coast. As a resident of the Gulf Coast, I don't think I've ever read a book based in my area so this was VERY exciting for me. It's honestly just a bonus that this book was good. Like, REALLY good.
I highly recommend utilizing the family tree featured at the beginning of the book as it will help with understanding who the characters are and how they're related.
So this is the first of a duet and it's obviously going to end on a cliffhanger, so prepare yourselves for that.
I enjoyed the build-up of the mystery part of the plot and the slow burn of the romance and the spice. This is not a spice-heavy story, but when the spice hits, it HITS. The way that the story is written makes you think and I LOVE that about this story. I can't wait to read the conclusion.
You are going to fall in love with some characters, be annoyed by a few, and absolutely despise others, just as the author intended. I really had no complaints about this book at all and I look forward to seeing more from this author. I truly think you'll enjoy this too.
P.S. Listen to the Spotify playlist that accompanies this book. One song per chapter and according to the author there are clues in each song for the chapter that it's intended for.
Everything you want from a slow-burn romance....and then some! This book will take you on a rollercoaster ride from start to finish. There is so much to love about The Secrets That You Keep - I don't even know where to start. The characters pull you in, and the story line makes you stay. This isn't your typical contemporary, enemies-to-lovers romance. Chloe I. Miller weaves together a twisted tale of love, hate, betrayal, secrets, and murder. The story told by this author is something completely unique, and truly unlike the rest of those books you've been stashing in your TBR. Once you open this book, you will not be able to put it down!
I don’t understand why more people aren’t talking about this book. It takes all the best tropes and twists/turns that people love in the fantasy drama and drops it in a contemporary setting.
Enemies to lovers ✅ Dark secrets ✅ Dark broody man ✅ Twists and turns ✅ Mystery ✅ Steam ✅ Found family ✅
I could go on an on about this and can’t wait to dive into book two!!
That cliff hanger!!! 🫣 The slow burn, enemies to lovers romance was well written out. The family tree laid out at the beginning was extremely useful to keep track of the characters. The twists will take you on a ride. I cannot wait for the second book in the series.
If anyone loves This Is Us, The Haunting of Hill House and Mindhunters well look no further this book series is for YOU!!! I went in blind because I enjoy being surprised and shocked, WELL by all mean this book did that and much more it kept me guessing extremely even when I hit the last page the ending Chloe did an amazing job with this whole book and that cliffhanger omg such cliffhanger…I definitely can’t wait for book Two!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Omg, this is quite possibly one of the best suspense romance thrillers I have read in a long time! So many intricate relationships and plot twists. There is intensity and spice! It took me a couple of chapters to get all of the characters straight, but once I did, i could not put this book down! And now, i absolutely MUST read the next book in the series!
4.5 ⭐️ because the family tree is actually a forest and I had to refer to it multiple times. However! Even though I was confused about the endless amount of characters and who belonged where, I couldn’t stop.
The first chapter pulls you in. Then the next 30% of the book makes you think you imagined the first chapter, and (for me) makes you consider putting the book down. The whole slow burn romance is annoying. You know Evie and Samuel are going to get together. Just do it (literally) already and move on to more interesting things. Like corpses!!
Ultimately I gave it three stars because I was interested in the murder mystery. And I liked the flashbacks that really fleshed the family out. But so disappointing that it was a cliffhanger, and when I’m done writing this I’ll go spoil myself on the sequel because I cannot invest another 300+ pages on this story.
