Perfect Crime #1

The Dark Path

Rate this book
One of the most ghastly cold cases resurfaces 13 years later, and things are even more twisted… why now?

The FBI dream team has a new boss, Dr. Evelyn Mayer. Leon and the team must adjust to the new boss as she’s tough to please and works differently.

As they try to find common ground, the bodies of 2 teenagers surface in New York, and the ball is in their court. Leon recognizes some similarities between this case and a cold case that has haunted him for 13 years.

But in previous killings, the killer targeted the residents of a retirement home – this time, the home for troubled girls falls victim. This home takes in girls from the bottom of the barrel; girls that even their families have given up on, and the lady in charge, Ms. Greta, thinks they deserve to die.

As Leon and his team get probing, they learn about a homeless man and the dark pasts of the slain girls. Right when they think they have their hands on the killer, another girl goes missing.

Did they catch the wrong suspect?

Is it another killer? Could it be Ms. Greta?

Author Clara Lewis has always been an avid fan of mysteries. As a child, she devoured the “Nancy Drew” and “Hardy Boys” series’s, which inspired her desire to write her own mystery thrillers. Though Clara’s journey took her in several different directions, she eventually published her debut series early in 2021.

Besides spending her time creating vast worlds and convoluted mysteries for her readers to divulge in, Lewis spends her time at her home in Portland, Oregon. As a mother and wife, she wears many hats, and can often be found baking and crocheting.

Lewis always had a passion for creating, and she wants nothing more than to provide the same thrills she loves to her readers. She loves to read (and smell) books just as much as she loves to write them! She has several projects in the works, and can’t wait to share them with her audience.

Leon and his team from FBI are about to start investigate a new case of murders (two teenagers, friends one to another, and also residents of a special house for trouble(d) girls). Leon somehow find similarities to his first case in FBI, 13 years prior, the one they failed to solve, and is thrilling to find and capture that old perpetrator, provided his hunch is right, that is the same person.
And now he is about to do the job under a new chief, since dr. Naderi, former chief is due to retire for limit of age in FBI, and thus their new chief is a woman, Evelyn. And they are not very easy on each other in their first moments.
While on cover up operation in some club where they believed those killed girls used to hang out, they are very close to thing they grabbed to killer; only to find in the very end of the episode, it was not him.
So, we should wait for the next episode to unfold and help us further with more details :-)

More Realistic Than Prequel!

by Barbara Kelley

"The Dark Path" is Book 1 of the Perfect Crime Series, written by Clara Lewis. Be sure to read the prequel first: "Over the Window" by Clara Lewis. The prequel tells the audience the story of a serial killer who murdered and dismembered elderly residents of and old age home, and this killer was never found. Fast forward 13 years later, and "The Dark Path" brings us a serial killer, murdering and dismembering the bodies of two young girls, Jenna, age nineteen, and Marie, age twenty, best friends to one another, and troubled girls who were living in a huge home for troubled girls. In the prequel, F.B.I. Agent Leon Graves was a 25-year-old rookie agent and former police officer. In Book 1, he is now a 38-year-old veteran with several awards for apprehending criminals under his belt; however he can't get over the fact that his very first case about the murdered victims at the old age retirement home remained unsolved. Now, he has a second chance to bring this serial killer to justice, because except for the ages of these new victims, their murders are identical to the cold case victims. In Book 1, Dr. Naderi is retiring, because he's now 57 years old and that's when F.B.I. agents have to retire. I looked this up on the Internet and found this to be a true statement. The justice system is trying to change that law to 65 years of age, but currently, it is still 57 for retirement age. I wonder what Dr. Nadari will do when he retires. Replacing him is Dr. Evelyn Mayer, an experienced clinical psychological profiler. She is around Leon's age, very pretty, and about 5'3" tall, according to the book's text. She and Leon argue a lot for a few chapters, but they finally grow up and help each other with this case. I gave this book 5 stars because it was much more realistic than the prequel. This book ends with another missing girl, to be continued in Book 2. I will read it next.

I received a complimentary copy and this is my voluntary honest review.

The FBI team have a new boss Dr.Evelyn Mayer. Leon and the team must adjust to the new boss as she is tough to please and has her own way of working. Two teenagers Jenna Ortega and Marie Mccurdy are found dead in New York. They have to deal with this case and Leon recognises some similarities in this case with an old one that had gone cold. The previous killings had been residence in a retirement home. This time it was a home for troubled girls. The lady in charge Miss Greta was a cold hearted person and thought the girls deserved to die. As Leon and his team go hunting for clues they learn about the homeless man and the dark side of the slain girls. When they think they have the killer another girl goes missing. I found this book a chilling read and was on the edge of my chair till I finished it. I am on the ARC team and I leave a honest review. I recommend this book to other readers.

This book continues from Over the Window. We were introduced to an FBI team, headed by Dr. Naderi. Newcomer Leon Graves joins the team and wants to impress his new boss. Unfortunately, they did not solve the case of the serial killer. Time passes and we catch up to the team again in this book. Dr. Naderi is going to retire and pass the lead to Dr. Evelyn Mayer. Leon is still headstrong and they seem to rub the wrong way initially. The team gets a new case and Leon recognizes similarities between the was this serial killer worked and the elusive serial killer from the first case. Instead of elderly people who won’t be missed, it is now young girls from a home for troubled girls. The team starts off again with a new boss. Same serial killer of copycat? I am excited to see how this goes. I received an ARC copy from the author and this is my honest review.

This was a good thriller. Leon Graves, an FBI agent for 13 years, has been assigned to a new case involving the murders of two teenager girls whose body parts have been strewn in the woods outside of New York City. The girls were residents of a home for troubled girls. The case bears a striking similarity to Leon's first case of the murders of residents of an old folks' home. The residents' body parts were found scattered outside the home in nearby woods. The first case was never solved. Leon not only has to deal with his new case, but he also has to get used to working with a new supervisor, Dr. Evelyn Mayer, after his previous superviser, Dr. Naderi, retires. If you like suspense and intrigue, you'll like this book. I highly recommend it to other thriller readers. I received an ARC of this book, and the opinion expressed is strictly my own.

This is Book 1 of the Perfect Crime Series. If you haven’t already read the prequel, Over The Window, I recommend you do so because it sets this new series up PERFECTLY.

It’s about 13 years later, Leon has been an FBI agent and learned a few things on the job. Which includes, getting hurt sucks. Another case comes up, new changes to the team are happening, and this new case doesn’t feel right to Leon, it holds some similarities to his first ever FBI case.

This one was a fast read, but it was so good. I am loving everything about this new series and Clara Lewis is an author that knows how to write police books. That last page tho…. EEK!!! Book 2, I can’t wait for it!!!

A riviting short short beginning

Even though it was short , it held my attention to the end. Giving just enough information to want me to get the second book to see how it ends. I would recommend to those who like to be lead into a dark path of the unknown. I gave it 5 stars because ; 1) it held my interest, 2) well written.

The Dark Path

This book is very engaging. I found that it was very useful for understanding how everything worked. It is a must read for women with children at the age of dating because it provides enough information to help you help your own child learn how to keep their self more safe!

Hard to read

This just wasn't a good read for me. And I love Clara ?Lewis. I found it hard to follow. Lots of errors which were distracting. Missing words sentence errors etc. I am a fan of Clara Lewis so I am going to read book two. Maybe I was the problem.

Enjoyed following along as the FBI team searches for clues in this murder mystery. Full of intrigue and twists, book 1 starts us on an adventure that will continue in future books in this series. Interesting characters and a well woven plot.

A Very Compelling Book!

This book caught my attention from the beginning. There’s a new supervisor that everyone is trying to get used to. A new case but is it the killer from a code case years ago that killed the elderly people or is this a copycat??

I had thought this would tie up some loose ends relative to Leon's search for the killer 13 years ago, and the belief that this new killer was somehow tied to those deaths. Instead this book ended on a 'cliffhanger'. Didn't appreciate how it ended.

I think Clara Lewis has a book in mind, but these few chapters is not a book for me. It's unfinished, so I don't even consider it a short story.

Good prequel

Opening chapters that leave so ,uch open and unanswered. Hopefully, the book will be better, only time will tell if the author can deliver.

The Dark Path was a well written, entertaining thriller from beginning to end. A serial killer is on the prowl and girls are going missing. Will FBI agent Leon Graves be able to catch him before he kills again. Then it ends in a Cliffhanger.
I received a copy of this book for my honest review.
