Christopher can’t face failing in his purpose. Haunted by the tragic death of the last person he tried to aid, the Patron Saint of Travelers declares himself done as anxious refugees continue to arrive on his doorstep. But when a beautiful lady begs for his protection, he finds himself reluctantly making a deal.

Pretending to be a wealthy woman to cover her tracks, Madeline holds dangerous secrets close to her heart as she starts to fall for their sexy guide. But Christopher fears the group’s resentment towards the difficult debutante will result in his leading them all toward their doom.

What a good book

This is my first book by this author and I fell into it as I was given the chance to read the Arc for Book 2. I wanted to read this before I dove into that and I am glad I did.
This was a great post apocalyptic book, not my usual but I feel like I was completely taken into this world.
The MMC is the literal patent saint of travellers Christopher. The world is surviving a post apocalyptic event, saints and angels have been booted out of heaven, no one really knows the how or why but while they’re on Earth they have a physical and necessary need to fulfill their ‘namesakes’
The new Carolina’s is under a new name, a new regime and a new leader. The FMC Madeline is trying desperately to escape, cross the closed borders and return home. She goes to Saint Christopher to beg for his help but she can’t let him or anyone else know that the person she’s running from is the one who’s in charge of all the borders and the regime of new soldiers.
He doesn’t want to take on this extra burden of protecting someone else especially when they’re not being honest with him of who and what they’re hiding.
Loved this book, the post apocalyptic idea, the saints back on Earth to aid the humans trying to pick up the pieces of a world they no longer know and who doesn’t love a love interest with a fallen saint

Page-turner with a unique setting that doesn't overwhelm the romance. Not only is the love story hot (many times I wondered, "where will they have sex next?!") but the descriptions are so compelling it's like being in these characters' heads. Love the journey both Christopher and Madeline go on in this book (literally and figuratively). The premise of fleshly saints on Earth is unusual but as a reader, I was willing to follow the narrative wherever it went because the world-building is so confident I didn't even question it. This a slow-build with great pay-off.

I had a hard time sticking with this book. I would read some, go and read other books, then come back and read some more. I guess it was the fact that is was slow moving. There was some world-building to be done, but I guess I have gotten accustomed to the shorter, fast- paced books that I normally read. That said, if you welcome a more leisurely read, and like post-apocalyptic love stories with a little danger and some good guy/bad guy interactions, then you will enjoy it. It does move a lot faster at the end. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

Wow, my first story about Fallen saints and it was great! I was so taken away with this story that I fell in to this world and did not want to leave. A great read that was extremely original, and I Loved It!!! There is a HEA and I think another story, to come. I will be reading it.

Received from Book Sirens as an ARC, this was a very interesting concept. It was fun to read, albeit a bit long, with some redundancy. Looks like an interesting series.

Love me a bad boy-to-lover romance trope. Saint Christopher delivered! A+

Maddy runs away from a horror she never thought she would ever get caught up in. They are looking for her, nowhere is safe. Only one man can help her now and she has to do whatever it takes to convince St Christopher to help her cross the border. She took her only chance to escape and there is nothing more important than getting home safely to her family.

This is a good book. It is very well written, has a solid creative storyline and definitely held my attention all the way through. I love how unapologetically cantankerous & introverted Christopher is, eye-balling anyone who dares to step into his personal space. But of course under all the hostility is a tender soul, but not quite the loveable rogue. It was interesting that the author wrote his character lacking in combat skills, which is usually the norm for hunky muscular leads, but I appreciated that. I completely sympathised and walked with Maddy on her plight. It was interesting how she controlled her emotions through sheer will, to skillfully manoeuvre herself out of stressful, sticky situations that threatened to break her down into tears. But I always had a watchful eye on Christopher to see if/how he would transition from a horrible, grumpy (old) man, in light of his growing feelings towards Maddy. I also liked the crossover theme between the 'modern day' fallen angels and the post-apocalyptic struggles. Although the steam level was rather tame, I would definitely recommend this book and look forward to reading the next in this series.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily

Totally Believable

This book. Sheesh. One thing I love so much is when authors really commit to their characters and their worlds. There isn’t this back and forth of “oh he’s a jerk” but then two sentences later it’s “nah jk he’s really a softy.”

Christopher is not really a super nice guy - even with Patron Saint status. And he stays the same guy even after he starts to fall for Maddy.

Maddy stays committed to her story and her plan regardless of her feelings. She doesn’t trust - for good reason - and a few tender moments doesn’t make her fall down and bare all (literally or figuratively). It’s these details that give this book its realness.

Also the post-apocalyptic world - I believe it. It’s terrifying in its authenticity. The way Jessica carried current sentiment into a raw and exposed apocalyptic world just hit the mark. The danger was real. The stakes were so high. And the pay off was what I needed.

For transparency: Jessica is my friend. And I’ve been with this book for a couple years now. But don’t let that make you think she didn’t earn all five of these stars. Watching this go from “oh I think I have an idea about a woman who bargains herself with Saint Christopher” to this book has been an absolute pleasure.

If paranormal is your jam; if broody and flawed characters are your people; if dystopian or post-apocalyptic is your vibe then this book is for you.
