The book, Spin the Story of Michael Jackson is a fantastic book written by Sherry O’Keefe. Michael Joseph Jackson was born in August 29 1958; he was born in Gary, Indiana, United States. He died in June 25th 2009. This book is based on Michael Jackson’s life before and after his big career of becoming the king of pop. Michael Jackson was interested in music at a very young age; he began a band called, Jackson Five, involving his four brothers, and him. The band became a great success and recorded many songs as a band. The band had a great career and had a star put in the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He soon got his solo career that was a more achieved goal of his. His first written and sang song was Billie Jean, which then led to many other hit singles such as Beat It, Thriller, Bad, Man In the Mirror, etc… More than 20 million copies were sold worldwide, each time he released an album. Michael Jackson got his own start put in the Hollywood Walk of Fame, he also won 13 Grammy awards throughout his whole life. In 1944, Michael married Lisa Marie Presley with a happy marriage. It didn't last long till Michael Jackson got divorced from Lisa Marie Presley and married a dermatologist nurse, Debbie Rowe. In 1997, Prince Michael Jackson is born, a year later Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris Katherine Jackson was born. His final child, Prince Michael Blanket is born in 2002. Michael Jackson had a very dear love for children and created an amusement park, named after the movie Peter Pan, the amusement park was called Neverland. Neverland was a free creation he built for children to spend time in, there was a movie theater, rides, and more, Michael had a very kind heart and was very generous. The sad moment arrived when it was June 25th of 2009, when Michael Jackson died because of cardiac arrest. The day this happened, a social media network, Twitter was blowing up with messages about and for Michael Jackson. Even if Michael Jackson hadn't released an album since 2001, the whole internet could not hold all the messages made about Michael Jackson. The general Google didn't have enough place for all the comments, over 20 million page views arrived about Michael Jackson. Michael was known as one of the world’s most successful music artists, he is still till this day known as the king of pop.
How did this person treat others, how do you know? Michael Jackson was a very generous person, with a kind heart, he always thought of the people he was surrounded with before himself. Michael Jackson had a very big heart for children; he created an amusement park called Neverland. Neverland was something Michael Jackson built for kids to embrace their childhood in a free amusement park, with rides a movie theatre, a pool, etc... He also donated more than five million dollars to charities and poor people. This is how Michael Jackson was kind to people, and how he treated them fairly and always wanted a smile on everyone’s face. List four adjectives that describe this person. Give a reason for each word chosen. If I could describe Michael Joseph Jackson in four adjectives, they would be something that matched his personality. First, I would describe him generous. I chose this adjective for Michael Jackson because he is always willing to help people and children be happy and not in pain, he had a very big heart and always thought of others before him. Secondly, I would describe him as funny; I chose this word because he always had a good sense of humor when he was interviewed or in a music video. He also made many people laugh during his spare time with his kind actions. Thirdly, I would describe him as talented because he was not only talented in his voice, but he was also very well known for his signature move, The Moonwalk. Michael Jackson was talented with both singing and dancing at a very young age, and developed his voice and movements throughout his career. Finally, I would describe Michael as brave because throughout his life, he got a lot of hate with rumors and stories about false information. He focused on the important things to him, his fans, music, family, and kids. He was brave to continue with his music and not let the hate stop him. These are the four adjectives that I would describe the one and only, Michael Joseph Jackson with. How did this person change other people’s lives? Michael Jackson was one that cared very much about nature and Mother Nature in general. He changed many people’s thoughts about littering and damaging the world by his music. He wrote songs such as Heal the World, Nature, We are the World and They Don’t Really Care about Us. He changed the way people thought about the world, the people who count as the population till this day. He was a good influence to being a better person and helping the world be a better place for everyone to survive with a cleaner atmosphere. This is how Michael Jackson changed people’s lives. Spin: the story of Micheal Jackson is an excellent autobiography about the life of the King Of Pop! This book is very interesting because it gives every detail of what happened in his childhood, career, and death. The author Sherry O' Keefe talks about his battle with skin cancer. In my opinion, the best thing about this book is that there are multiple pictures throughout the chapters. I am a fan of Micheal Jackson so reading this book was very fun for me and I was very fascinated while reading. This is an example of an excellent autobiography! I myself would recommend this book to teenagers.
The book is rated a three for a couple reasons. First, it gives really good details about Michael and his family. For example, it tells what year every 9 children was born. Second, it had hard words in like almost every page. For example, " While he also earned extra income as a WELDER on the side". Those are the reasons why it is rated a 3.
I liked and disliked this book for a couple reasons. First, in the back of the book there is a page that shows a timeline about the events in Michael's life. For example, it tells when Thriller was made or when he married his wife. Second, the book tells us way more about when he became a pop star than how he had to live with his poor family. For example, in only one chapter they talked about his childhood and all the others was about when he was a pop star. Those are the reasons why I liked and disliked the book.
Some features the book has are good for a couple reasons. First, the book has a page that talkes about the sources that they used to get the information. It can help for example, he needs to find out if the sources are actually correct. Second, the book has a timeline which tell events from Michael's life. For example, if he only needs the main part of the persons life he can go to the timeline. Those are some features the book has.
At the start of this book a lot of weird and exiting things are happening. First, on June 25, 2009 Michael Jackson died and when he died the internet and social networkings were going crazy. I found that weird because Twitter crashed and CNN received more than 20 million page views in one hour and in more than thirty-five minutes the world's largest search engine Google was unable to process the search requests for Michael Jackson. Second, his last album was published in 2001 and that album is called, Invincible. That is weird because "The King of Pop" didn't publish an album in the last eight years of his life. Those are a couple things that are weird about the beginning of the story.
This book was rated three stars for several reasons. First, it was rated three stars because it talks all about Michael Jacksons life and most of the world is in love with "The King of Pop". Michael Jackson died in 2011, it was one of the most important deaths of all. The last seven years of his life was full of bad things and his last album was released in 2001 and it was a fail."He had not released an album since 2001"(O'Keefe 9). The King of Pop wasn't always that great. Everything started when he was nine in the Apollo theater.
The Jackson 5 was the name of the band he started with his brothers. They felt intense pressure as they took the stage of an amateur competition. The crowd loved the band from where they began to sing."The audience loved the Jacksons from the moment the group began to sing"(O'Keffe 21).In 1968 Joseph, one of his brothers made the decision to spend time on the road.
This was an engagement to the Jackson family's future because they could earn 600 dollars per engagement. Opportunities continued to open up for the Jackson 5. THey signed a contract to record with a small company named Steeltown. The jackson 5 released two singles in 1968, Big Boy, and We don't have to be over 21. "It was a thrill for the family to gather around the radio"( O'Keefe 24).

I'm a huge Michael Jackson fan and this book brought the sadness of his life and death to the forefront. Not only did it bring to light his sad childhood, triumphant twenties and then his fall from grace, it also told of how this man just wanted to be rememembered as great and having helped other people. A very good read.
