Life is a work of art--shaped by the subtle shades of patience and creativity, faith and truth, hope and love. And when the everyday activities of home and work become infused with these qualities, the hidden art that lies beneath the surface begins to shine through. What is the secret of such a life? To be a creative genius? No. It is only to know the Creator--to love Him, to know His presence in our lives, to walk in His way. And as we are drawn closer to Him, the most ordinary events are transformed by his power and presence into a work of art that will shine forever.
Drawing from the depth of Edith Schaeffer's experience, "The Art of Life counsels and encourages with a month of daily readings which have been selected from Mrs. Schaeffer's eleven books. A brief prayer and Scripture readings accompany the selection for each day.
But "The Art of Life is also a work of art in itself--blending the written word, a prayer, and Bible readings with the exquisite drawings of artist Floyd G. Hosmer. Here the simple beauty of rural themes--a weathered barn, wild flowers, a country road--suggest in their own way the gentle beauty of the commonplace scenes in our own lives as they are touched by the Creator.
EDITH SCHAEFFER is the widow of Francis Schaeffer, and with him co-founder of L'Abri Fellowship. Her many books include A Celebration of Children and The Life of Prayer. She passed away in 2013.
Recognized internationally for his work in Christianity and culture, Francis A. Schaeffer authored more than twenty books, which have been translated into a score of languages and sold millions worldwide. He and his wife, Edith, founded L'Abri Fellowship international study and discipleship centers. Schaeffer passed away in 1984, but his influence and legacy continue worldwide.
A devotional book compiled (by others) with excerpts from Edith Schaeffer’s books. It progresses through ideas of God as the great artist, the purpose of man, salvation, and then through different themes of the Christian life. I found myself sharing portions of what she had to say with others. Short readings and thought provoking. Would recommend.
This is a compilation of some of the best excerpts from Edith Schaeffer's books.
Edith and Francis Schaeffer's story can be read in the L'Abri story.
This is more of a devotional type book, with bible references and 2-3 page devotions. I hesitate to call it a devotional book because this may suggest it is not lasting or deep. The thoughts and discussions here are scripture based and will give any Christian some amazing mind food that will produce fruit.
I am currently studying this book in a ladies group, after I read the whole book with my husband. It's not just for women.
