I bought this book in the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens book shop (ZAR 265) and not on Amazon for a change.

It is a fantastic and very well illustrated book on the natural history of Table Mountain which is easy and delightful to read.

The book describes many of the intricate and often surprising relationships between geology, plants and animals around Table Mountain, one of the planet's major biodiveristy hotspots.

For example, the red disa orchid - and several other red flowers on Tabel Mountain - are pollinated exclusively by the Mountain Pride butterfly, which unusually for butterflies has a high affinity for red colors.

Another example are protea species that are pollinated by rodents and need fire to germinate. Without fire no germination.

I can highly recomend this book! Stunning, beautifully illustrated, well written and researched and absolute delight to read!
