Rat
In a parody of memoirs worthy of J. D. Salinger's "Catcher in the Rye," the protagonist of this novel, self-acknowledged and self-named Rat, is acutely aware of his rat-ness, his rat-being, so to speak. Though he knows he's very different from human beings, he prefers being a rat since it gives him a unique and more interesting perspective on the world. Rat, though a rat, is lonely and seeks a woman who is as rat-like as he is. Can Rat find happiness in his rat-world? Can Rat find love? Can he find a true rat-mate? Fast-moving, cynical, and darkly comical, Lavey takes the reader along on Rat's journey for rat-meaning, rat-pupose, and, most important, rat-love in a world filled with humans who don't recognize the beauty of "rat-ness."
