No Peace No Quiet: A Crime Thriller

Rate this book
Jessica Morrison’s parents were murdered sixteen years ago. Now the killer is coming for her.

Looking back, Jessica had a picture-perfect childhood, but that was all ripped to shreds when her loving parents were killed. Eventually, the case went cold and Jessica realized the police barely investigated. She was too young to do anything about their inaction, so she concentrated on growing up as fast as possible under the care of her uncle.

But life had never been the same after that day and her uncle never opened up about the details of her parents death.

And he never will because now he’s dead.

Jessica recognizes that the killer used the same signature as her parent’s death. It has to be the same killer and once again the police don’t want to investigate. There’s something suspicious going on and Jessica begins to understand why her uncle never talked about her parent’s murders–to protect her.

Now it’s up to Jessica to bring the person hunting her family to justice and find out why they’re being targeted.

Before the killer finds her to finish the job once and for all.

This is one of the most frustrating books I’ve encountered in a while. Not because the murder mystery was some kind of brain-twister, but because the writing style made the female main character almost unbearable.

As I listened to the audiobook, one consistent thing kept going through my head “Why is it so repetitive?? She keeps saying the same thing. And If she genuinely trusts Andy, why hasn’t she confided in him about the road incident? I mean shes clearly an amateur, so she can’t solve this issue alone!”

I can’t blame the narrator for this, as it’s clearly an issue with the book’s structure. Because this book is poorly written. Roughly 60% of the content felt like recycled filler, and you’d be hard-pressed to find a sentence that didn’t reappear at least three times, if not more, throughout the book.

The only thing I liked was her finally learning more about her parents from Aaron. But, on that note, what in the world did she and her uncle ever discuss if her parents were never brought up? It’s baffling that she had to rely on a stranger to fill in the most basic details.

Then there’s the core plot, the murder of her uncle, and her trying to solve it. Which was fine especially with the help of Andy but what was sorely lacking was more background information. We needed at least one chapter to fill in the gaps about her life before leaving town, her life during visits to her uncle, her childhood friendship with Andy, and so on.

Because while it was believable that he loved her because they were childhood best friends, it was hard to connect with them. She came across as somewhat cowardly, playing the scaredy-cat, and he seemed to emerge out of thin air. Plus as I said, no background information whatsoever.

I’m just so annoyed I stuck with the book, despite my inner debate about giving up on it, because I genuinely wanted to know who and why her parents and uncle were murdered. I even started settling into the book and enjoying the interactions between Andy and her. But when I finally discovered the reasons behind the murders, I was mad all over again. Because that was the most useless and twisted reason. Perhaps it might have worked in a different situation or context, but in this scenario, it felt poorly executed and left me doubting the credibility of the culprits and their motives.

Then there was how they were rescued in the ending! It might have worked if the book was set up to be more of an FBI thriller or if we got introduced to them somewhat in the middle but out of nowhere? Yeah it just doesn’t make sense.

In the end, this book feels like a mystery that aims for shock value but misses the mark. It’s akin to putting together the best episodes from an FBI series but the pieces didn’t fit together seamlessly. Also with not much substance holding it together, if that makes sense.

That’s why, while I hate to be so harsh, I can’t help but think this is probably the worst book I’ve encountered this year.encountered this year.

this book is like a 16 year old girl decided to pick up a pen and paper for the first time, everything felt rushed and with no depth. The ending wasn’t hard to imagine and figure out, only unexpected thing was a weird sex scene that came out of nowhere, since they had barely kissed before it. I also hated the whole “happy ever after” part, it’s a mystery novel?? I doubt most ppl care that they got married and had kids. Not worth your time, but in its core it isn’t a horrible book, just doll.

I have no idea how I made it through this one. I listened to it and I honestly feel within 30 seconds of any point in this book there was the same sentences. I wanted to shake the author and say, "WE KNOW!!!!!!!" It was an ok story but the repetitiveness was almost unbearable.

I really tried to like this book, but it’s just repetition of same exact thing over and over again. I always finish books, but this I just couldn’t.

I don't like to say a book is bad, because I know the amount of effort that goes into writing a book, putting yourself out there as an artist. I also feel that, that is why there are editors and publishers to help you reach your dream and to put the best version of your book out into the world.
The story line was OK, but the rest was just down hill.
The characters were so undeveloped, with really "cringy" dialog that felt so unnatural. The main character was so unlikable, she sounded snappy with everything she said. She talks about this love she had for her Parents and uncle, but you never get the sense of why she loved them so much. You get no insight into her relationships.
The book was so repetitive. Almost like this was supposed to be short story, but was then stretched to a full length book by repeating and bad dialog.
She also loves to keep you hanging. Mention's something, like the picture she found and then you never found out what was on the picture or maybe I missed it, because I was skimming so much.
Also "the weapon", again maybe I missed it, but we never find out what "the Weapon" actually is.
It kind of feels like and AI platform wrote this book.
I only read it, because it was free on my subscription, but I should have just DNF'd it after the first 30 pages.
I am so sorry to say, this was really not well written or thought out. I can't imagine that this books ran through an editor.

Frankly, the main character was horribly annoying and I simply could not finish the book.

*Mild spoilers ahead but all are in the first several chapters of the book.*

To begin with, Jessica’s uncle dies and she asks no questions about how or why. She figured out he was murdered in the same manner as her parents and almost seems to shrug it off. She finds out her uncle planned his own funeral and doesn’t ask any more questions. She just passive. While I get that grief will cause different reactions in different people, I could not deal with how passive Jessica was. Someone’s scratching at her window, she doesn’t get a weapon or lights or a camera. It was beyond frustrating.

No Peace No Quiet by Harper Shaw was a nice action thriller with a good amount of twists. It was a good, fast-peace thriller but something didn't click with me for a while. I think it was a little repetitive at the start. By some point it stopped and the book became more enjoyable.
In some ways it felt more as move that book.
This book is about a girl whose parents and now her uncle have been murdered and she decides to find out who the killer is. She takes investigation in her hands and unwrapping layer by layer of this misery.

The thriller element of this story was solid and kept me guessing all the way through. But oh boy - the writing. It was painfully repetitive. If I had a penny for every time something was repeated, I could happily quit my job on Monday. Honestly, I get it: the main character’s parents and uncle were murdered. I didn’t need to be reminded of it hundreds of times. The romance felt underdeveloped, and in all honesty unnecessary. The main character herself grated on me more than once. Overall, not the worst book I’ve ever read, but definitely a major meh.

No Peace No Quiet is a relentless crime thriller that doesn’t give you a moment to catch your breath. Harper Shaw delivers a gritty, fast-paced ride through a world where silence is deadly, and peace is a luxury no one can afford. With sharp dialogue, complex characters, and a plot that twists like a knife, this book is perfect for readers who crave thrillers that leave them on edge until the final page.

This book was not good at all. If the author hadn’t given reference to the killer’s occupation after she named her, I would have just thought she drew it out of thin air.
I finished it for my reading challenge but that is the only reason. Doesn’t even really deserve one star.

2.25 Stars for me.

The story had promise but just could not keep my interest. The repetition is what killed it for me.

Sorry, couldn't finish it. Not gonna leave a rating, because it'd be unfair in case the book got better (aka less bad) after the 1/4 part I got through.

Seemed overly repetitive in some spots and the romance seemed over the top. Good storyline….just needed to be less contrived and more factual.

I DNF. 8 chapters in and she repeated herself so much that I just couldn't stand it.
