I really liked the summary of the story which is why I picked it up, but the story itself fell flat for me. When the story starts, the FL Chi Suisui and the ML He Xingwang are engaged already as part of a childhood agreement between their families and are technically living together to "foster emotions", though the ML doesn't spend much time at home as he mostly stays at the athlete training center. She's a college student about to graduate and enter the world of journalism, while he is a super popular athlete known for his impeccable shooting skills. Both of them are from prestigious business families, though while the ML's prestigious family background is known, the FL's is hidden and stays that way for most of the story.
The story is lighthearted in nature and centers around various incidents where the FL uses her secret relationship with the ML or her family's extensive influence to accomplish something difficult and shock the netizens. For example, she's able to upstage her rival and get an exclusive interview with He Xingwang, who is notorious for not accepting any media interviews. Or when everyone believes that she's from a poor family in the mountains, she does a giveaway on her Weibo for cash and snack prizes sponsored by her dad's company. It was amusing initially but got old after a while tbh.
Most of the story is driven by the fact that Chi Suisui's background is hidden, so people try to target her but don't know who they're messing with. The author emphasizes that while plenty of people in the upper echelons of Nancheng society know the truth about her family and the betrothal, they stay quiet to avoid displeasing both the He and Qi families. That's why the netizens and reporters are in the dark for so long.
Surprisingly there was a lot of online commentary from netizens. I wasn't expecting this aspect to the story at all, since the FL is just an ordinary girl, and while the ML can be considered a minor celebrity as a celebrated athlete, he barely checks or posts on Weibo. It definitely felt like the author was stretching to make it seem like people online care about the events that happen to the FL. They even have their own CP and CP shippers, which I thought was a ridiculous.
The romance itself was okay but didn't have as much cute or fluffy parts as you would expect from a couple that is already engaged and living together at the beginning of the story. Most of their interactions were pretty low key and straight to the point without much intimacy or flirting.
Also, there's a side CP featuring Chi Suisui's best friend and the CEO of a robotic AI company. They're both pretending to be "poor" as they think the other person is poor. I was not invested in all in their story. The main story doesn't feature them too much, but they do get a bunch of chapters in the extras.
Speaking of the extra chapters, I didn't like that the news of the FL's pregnancy is broadcasted in real time on a live stream. I think the author was a little too idealistic about this; most couples don't reveal they're pregnant until much later even to close friends and family, much less live stream the whole pregnancy check at the hospital.
