𝑫𝒖’𝒂 (supplication) is the essence of worship - the very purpose for which mankind was created. Oftentimes we forget how immensely blessed the act of du’a is - the acknowledgement of 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗼𝗱’𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝘂𝗿. We feebly raise our palms upwards as a mere matter of monotonous ritual rather than as an earnest invocation of the Divine. This is the sad truth for many of us, but it is one that should spur us into action if we truly desire 𝑘ℎ𝑎𝑦𝑟 (goodness) in our lives.

💚 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝘂’𝗮: first praise Allah ﷻ, then salawat upon Muhammad ﷺ, then ask for what you want.
💚Highly recommended to invoke the 𝟵𝟵 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 of Allah ﷻ, corresponding to what you’re asking for e.g. in times of poverty one should invoke “Al-Kareem” - the Most Generous.
💚 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 is the primary factor in determining dua acceptance.
💚Raising the hands, being in wudu, facing the qiblah and repeating the dua thrice are highly recommended to 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗱𝘂𝗮 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲.
💚Du’a is able to 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲. The outcome of one’s actions is dependent on the effort exerted to achieve the desired goal.

This is an incredibly comprehensive & easy to understand book aimed at people of all ages, one that will help us all take advantage of one of the biggest blessings we have been given.

It was a very fast-paced and a captivating read. The author Shaykh Yasir Qadhi has driven the point home in a very refreshing fashion.

Some of the gems I derived from this book---

1) Du'a is not an option, it's an obligation.

2) Du'a can be done at any time and at any place.

3) Du'a is a shield for the believers.

4) Allah accepts anyone's du'a if it's done sincerely.

5)The acceptance of one's du'a is proportionate to their sincerity.

This book explains the importance of dua'a, something which is not discussed often enough in halaqahs or khutbahs. Besides the importance and benefits of dua, the author also discusses the correct method of performing dua, what actions makes it more likely to be accepted, what makes it less likely to be accepted, some innovated practices, etc. It is very helpful, easy to read, and definitely a staple for any Islamic library.

Very informative and structured in a way that makes it easy to refer back to specific sections. My only complaint is that there is quite a bit of repetition in general.

Many of us very often complain that My Du'a is not being accepted. But how then our du'a will be accepted when we are not following minimum etiquettes of making du'a. Prophet Muhammad PBUH said, "Du'a of a believer will be accepted unless he hurries in du'as and wants something impermissible." So must need to know these conditions and pre requisite of making Du'a. In this small booklet Shykh Yasir explains all the related facts of making Du'a. The eloquence of writing will not let you feel bored ever.

Simply a phenomenal paradigm-shifting book. May Allah reward the Author generously for writing such a treatise.

It emphasizes the generosity of God and puts it in perspective.

Below are a few gems I picked up:

Humans, when you ask them for favors, get irritated. Allah, when you don't ask him, gets angry.

Allah is the All Generous, All Powerful. He is full of love and wants to give his servants more of his love.

I read something along the lines of this:
- If God takes all humans and Jinn and places them on a plane and satisfies each and everyone's wishes, that won't take anything of his Power and Kingdom, just as much as a needle, when placed in the ocean and removed, doesn't take any of the ocean's water.

Some people, maybe due to growing up in poor families or societies, train themselves to ask little, because people around them can't be generous. However, this is not good when you apply it to Du'a.
God has everything, and verily, the Heavens and Worlds are under his control and his only. He can do anything. He just says "kun" and it becomes, so why restrict one's wishes when asking Allah?

One should ask for more from the All Generous Creator.
- If you ask for a loaf of bread, realize that Allah, Al Kareem, Al Razzaq, can give you endless fields of fertile harvest and lifestock.
- If you ask Allah for a bicycle, realize that he can place in your favour the most fancy and most secure suite of cars and place private chauffeurs in your employ.
- If you ask Allah to lower your punishments, realize that he can put you in the high ranks of Heaven for Eternity.

Realize your lowly status compared to Allah. Make your Du'a with humility and grace, for you are a mere mortal and nothing in your life happens without the guidance of Allah, for without him, you could not take a single breath. If he wills, he can stop your heart right now and take your life. Everything in the world happens at the will of Allah, so don't be too arrogant. Don't stop making Du'a when it is not responded to. Don't make Du'a as an "experiment" as if you're testing Allah and putting Him on an exam as if he's your pupil (Astaghfirullah) and don't look up when making Du'a.

(CAUTION: when reading this last one, one may think that he should lower his status among men purposefully, to lower his posture and be lowly, but no. It is important that we walk among men as proud and upright as we can, to be strong, to be just and powerful, but only in front of Allah should we realize our triviality)

Don't make Du'a for matters corresponding to this world and neglect the Herafter.

One should also make Du'a on the small and big things in life, for nothing is too small, since everything, EVERYTHING, happens only by the will of Allah. Here's a story.

As I was reading the book, I was waiting for an airplane outbound to Qatar.

I read that one should make Du'a for the big things in life as well as the small. Now, I had a window seat on my boarding pass, but I always prefer lane seats as they provide more flexibility, so in my mind, I quietly said: "Allah, you are omnipotent and generous. Give me a way to get a lane seat."

In my mind, I thought I'd find someone who prefers window seats (they are common) and switch seats with them, but when I got on the airplane, I went to my window seat, and no one appeared in my row. I had the entire 3 seats by myself for a 10 hour flight. I asked Allah for a drop of water and he gave me a bucket. I asked him for 1 seat and he gave me three.

On a personal note: this book was written at a time when I myself was undergoing a great personal crisis. It was a time when I myself was turning to Allah, making du'a constantly and earnestly for a miracle to occur to save me from the situation that I was in. And it was while I was writing the final pages of this book, sitting in front of my computer, that a phone call from an absolutely unexpected source came, informing that, indeed, a miracle had occurred; and for Allah all matters are easy, for He only has to say, 'Kun', and it is! Verily, all praise is due to Allah, Who Hears the plea of the one in distress, Who is fully aware of the situation of the one who has been wronged, and Who grants justice to all.

Any Muslim that needs knowledge (about du'as) to put to use must read this book.

I found this book whilst exploring my favourite Islamic bookstore after reading Reclaim Your Heart by Yasmin Mogahed and was looking for something similar.

Dua is so important to me and this book has helped enormously in improving the quality and strength of my duas as well as being an extremely engaging and practical book. A lot of Islamic books can be quite difficult to get through but this was an easy and enjoyable read!

This book has also clarified many things for me outside of dua that apply to my own life, and I was moved by many of the sections from the Qur'an and Hadith included in the book. Although, I’m confused as to why Yasir Qadhi included some fabricated/very weak Hadith in this book (see page 144 footnote 290).

This book is a must read for all Muslims!

An excellent primer on the etiquettes and power of dua. It is a practical manual for healing and spiritual growth. Very accessible in language. The author does not presuppose any depth of knowledge with Islam. However, a person who is completely new to religion may need to consult with the dictionary of terms provided at the end of the book. I highly recommend the book to anyone interested in furthering their own spiritual growth.

I’m sad to say that reading this was a bit tedious because of the way it was written. Honestly, the content (when it wasnt repetitive) is comprehensive, detailed, and invaluable. I’m still glad I picked this up, because it’s exactly what I needed at the time, but I probably wouldn’t recommend this to someone who isn’t familiar w Dr. YQ or someone who isn’t a theology student.

This is a must read for all Muslims. Sheikh Yasir Qadhi provides useful information about dua. From the etiquettes of dua, to the cultural innovations that Muslims have adopted over the years from weak hadiths, and many more topics regarding dua. This book will equip Muslims with the neccessary knowledge to ask their creator for whatever they desire as long as they ask in accordance with the etiquettes of dua and that what they ask for is halal.

A highly recommended read. The author examines the importance of perfecting your dua which is a daily worship that Muslims do by seeking Allah's aid and protection. We tend to be hasty and oblivious in the etiquettes of dua and the reasons why it is not fulfilled. Hence this book clarifies the misconceptions and delves into factors that are blocking our dua. May Allah forgives and guides us in our quest and accept our dua. Ameen ya rabbil Alameen.
