This is an intriguing historical story.Katherine had love Nick DeLauren but was forced to marry another man to save his life. Now her husband is dead and having just give birth find herself under attack. Now she is married to DeLauren who still love her but don’t fully trust her.Katherine is hiding a lot from her husband would he still love her when he find out the truth about her betrayal.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Nicholas has every reason to believe he's being betrayed through truths, deceptions, and hidden secrets. He only ever wanted Katherine, and it's a fight in all ways. Lots of action and suspense.
Betrayal is the story of Lady Katherine whose castle is besieged and so she rides to get help from the man she once betrayed. De Lauren is her one true love but she jilted him for another man, just two weeks before the marriage. De Lauren still loves Kate but can't trust her. When the newly widowed Kate comes to him for help he agrees but the price is that she marries him...so he can take his revenge. Betrayal is a story about suspicion and the strength of love. On many levels it is very clever, pitching the love of a man for a woman, against the love of a mother for her child. The plot moves along at a good pace, with believable settings and characters. I did get a little frustrated that Kate didn't come straight out and tell de Lauren she had a child - because this could have avoided a lot of trouble (but there, again, the answer is in the reason) and I did get a tinsy bit annoyed with Kate for repeatedly drugging the knights protecting her, or else knocking them unconscious with blunt objects. (Reason being she wanted to shake them off to visit her hidden son.) All in all a good romp of a read which I enjoyed. The good points far outweigh the slightly dodgy aspects and I'd consider other books by the same author.
I like historical romances but haven’t read a medieval one. I’m pleased with this one so I’ll definitely look for more set during this time period and by Fenech.
The story centers on Lady Katherine Stanfield whose own castle and holdings have been invaded by the power hungry Ranulf. In the dead of night she rushes to De Lauren, her former fiancé for aid. What he doesn’t know is that she’s hidden away her infant son, whom no one knows exists. She broke De Lauren’s heart five years earlier when she married William Norris. What De Lauren doesn’t know is why she cast him aside and he loves her still though he no longer trusts her.
Her primary objective is to keep her son safe at all cost. Fenech builds good tension . There are several villains but Ranulf, is by far the most black-hearted. The dialogue, setting and characters all seem authentic. There were only a few issues I had with the story. The first was the improbability of a woman who has just given birth traipsing around on horseback, first to De Lauren’s keep and then to her own holdings. Really? I felt she could have also had a little more romantically satisfying ending. It seemed to end too quickly without much transition. Other than that, it’s a great read. I give it four stars.
Katherine has married a man (William) she despises to protect the man she loves. Then her husband is killed in battle and Katherine shortly gives birth to twins. The girl dies, but the boy survives, and Katherine knows she must protect him at all costs, for he is the heir to her land- Standfield, which is coveted by unscrupulous men. Finally able to marry Nicholas, the man she loves, but she dares not let him know of the child, for he doesn't trust her for suddenly breaking their betrothal and marrying William five years before. Despite this he still loves Katherine. Suspicion builds against Katherine as it appears she is in league with the wicked Ranolph, who forced her to marry William. When an attempt is made on Nicholas' life, Katherine's actions finally bring the truth to light. I enjoyed the story, and while it was known the characters had intercourse, the scenes weren't described.
This is the first book I've read from this author and I have to say that I enjoyed the story. I wish there had been a bit more romance and interaction between the H and h but it was an entertaining and well-written story. I also wish she could have extended the ending a bit.....I felt it was a bit abrupt.
This was a fabulous read. I loved the characters (and truly hated some) and the storyline completely drew me in. My only reason for 4 1/2 stars rather than 5 would be due to the rather abrupt ending. An epilogue was definitely called for. I would also love for Stephen to have his own story.
