Olivia Callender needs a wake-up call. With a hundred-year-old hotel to rehabilitate, a staff of lovable eccentrics to marshal, and guests to keep happy, she has no one to blame but herself for daydreaming through the past few years--or her uncle's threat to take over the hotel.
And Rhys Spencer isn't helping. When the sexy British chef checked in, Olivia's common sense checked out. She doesn't have time to let him distract her, even if he is feeding her hottest fantasies. But the heat they create together is too much to resist, and when they spend a luscious night in his bed, Olivia truly wakes up for the first time--only to realize just what a mess her beloved hotel is. Throw in a pair of bumbling saboteurs, a cranky ex-ballerina, a gorilla costume, a lovesick writer, and tofurkey for fifty, and Olivia has her work cut out for her. All of which might be easier than convincing a certain brash Brit that he needs to wake up, too--and realize that he's hungry for her love. . .
I've always been a reader. I've also been a movie theater ticket taker, a nanny, a camp counselor, and a romance editor. Now I'm a mom and a writer who still spends most of my free time reading (when I'm not watching too much TV).
After starting off in romance with books like Hot Date and Pictures of Us, I'm writing in the genre I've always loved most, young adult fiction. (My very first completed novel, which will live forever under my bed, was a young adult novel!) Cold Kiss will be available from HarperTeen in September 2011.
I haven't finished reading this one yet so I didn't want to give it a star rating. I'm not a person who spends a lot of time reading, so when I pick up a book I prefer if it makes me want to stay up all night to finish in one setting. So far, what I have read, this book is funny in places. And Mrs. Garvey makes English men look very sexy. I wouldn't mind having a little Room Service myself.
Once I finish this book I'll give an updated review.
Two stars isn't meant to be a bad rating. This is a predictable romance with enjoyable humor, lacking tension and drama. It is a quick, beach read that can be read straight through, or for a mom with kids frequently interrupting, this book can be picked up and put down a hundred times without missing a beat. I wouldn't turn down another Amy Garvey if I came across one, but I wouldn't pay full-price for another of her books either... maybe check out the library holdings.
