Being Sociological is a concise and original thematic introduction to sociology that will help lecturers inspire their students and act as a springboard into the wider literature. Organized around twenty ways of existing and acting in the world, such as "seeing," "believing," "educating," "doing," it covers all the key areas of study required at first year and equips students for seeing the world through sociological eyes.
I have recently acquired a taste for Sociology and this book gave me the background narrative, skills and tools for taking up academic Sociology.
It is written by experts in the field and covers substantial grounds: Family, Work, Power, Media, Emotions, Religion, Modernity, Consumption, Racializing, Gender, Technology, Community, Education, Identity, Sexuality and Trading.
Although it is a textbook but does not behave like one :) By that I mean, it has a user-friendly tone!
I would recommend it to anyone who wants a solid introduction to the field of Sociology!
