The text is organized according to how sound interacts with built structures, going from simple geometries through complex building structures. The book begins with a brief but useful history of architecture and the role of acoustics, as well as overview of human perception of, sound, and then progresses through topics ranging from acoustic measurement, noise metrics and environmental noise, to sound in enclosed spaces, sound transmission in buildings, vibration and vibration isolation, and noise in mechanical systems.Architectural Acoustics also includes more advanced chapters on specific design problems, including treatment of multifamily dwellings, office buildings, sound reinforcement systems, rooms for music, multipurpose rooms, auditoriums, sanctuaries, and studios and listening rooms. Also covered is the theory loudspeaker systems and sound system modeling as well as in-depth presentation of computer modeling, ray tracing and auralization.

* Comprehensive guide to the basics of acoustical science and its applications to architectural design. * Author is renowned expert engaged in acoustical engineering for 20 years* Covers the latest environmental regulations and health and safety research related to sound inside and outside of buildings.

This is the book every student of music or of architecture should have. Long comprehensively covers his topic, leaving barely anything out. After all, 800 pages ought to be enough! Including sections for the layman was a bit confusing at first, but the rhythm wasn't lost; it was even enhanced by the occasional breaks from technical jargon. Fantastic!!! Five stars all day long. (Get it? All day... LONG!!)

An excellent reference. It is written in an easy-to-understand way, so a student or non-acoustician can easily get into the material, and is interesting (some other texts will bore you out of your mind). It also contains an enormous wealth of information - as someone who actually works in the acoustics field, this is essentially the bible in our office. Need an equation to figure out how much sound will go through a wall considering size, transmission loss, distance, and room effects? Marshall Long. Need a good way to describe NC levels in simple terms? Marshall Long. Want to know the difference between and best uses for the Sabine, Eyring, and Millington-Sette RT equations? Marshall Long.
