A unique social drama with a lighter theme of cultural assimilation that is something fresh.

Though I have to point out, I really thought the FL, Naranjini, would/should leave ML, Bharat. I got their connection to the land and culture but not with each other.

Are you intrested in travelling ?➡️Are you travelling currrntly? Then ,you should not miss reading this novel.

Reader choice of book: @halimasyed02 ✅

Quoted: "Does the earth after all having anything to show more fair than London Westminister Bridge"?✅

⏩The novel "Change Of Skies" is a fiction which is a potrayal of Sri Lankan -Australian immigrant experience in funny and ironic manner.

The novel ,"Change Of Skies" is written by Yasmine Gooneratne in 1991. She is a Post- Colonial Writer.

The novel ,"Change Of Skies " staring a couple named Bharat and Navaranjani . Bharat sweetly call her Baba. They are Sri Lankan. Bhart is trying to fetch a professor job at Australian Southern Cross University , South Wales. Baba is fond of learning and writing .Baba was very anxious about Bhart's Grandfather Edward's journal , titled "Lifeline".She wanted it to edit and publish it as a Book. That journal contains Edward's travel places , the cusines, the plants, animals , his love towards Emily and so on...Baba added many fantasical stories into it.

Quoted: "Travel diaries are completely meant to be facts and not fiction".✅

After Bharat got a job in South Wales, Australia there were many oppositions from their family.

Quoted: You and Baba won't be able to go on a drifting through life in a drama there, as you do in Colombo .You will be regarded as honary whites over there".

Battling all the oppositions, they landed in Australia.

On the walls there were, " SAY NO TO ASIANISTS".

When they reached Australia ...#readforward

I liked the comical effect put forth in the Post -Colonial novel. This comical effect has sustained me to read forth or this might be a dry novel .The author kept it pensive and authentic.
I am not sure about the race and cutural diversities is bridging a gap between humans in Australia .

An important work in Australian multicultural writing from a distinctly sub-continental perspective. Humour is juxtaposed against painful realities. A microcosm of 1980 s Australia

In this novel, ‘immigration’ and ‘acclimating to a new culture’ are the main themes. The novel’s title, makes a vibrant and explicit reference to this departure from home. The tale reconnoiters the characteristic harrowing encounters of Asian immigrants in an unacquainted environment. It addresses cross-cultural interaction and the challenges it places on both newcomers and natives. As a result, this book becomes an outstanding illustration of the diasporic book genre.

At first, Bharat and Navaranjini are quite surprised by how Australians behave and are unsure of how to react to them. They vigorously engage in social interaction and outreach with Australians in an effort to establish a connection with them. The Koyakos are exposed to be extremists who think that everything about Sri Lankan culture is commendable and that it is wise to keep a distance from Australian society as seen through their eyes.

By renunciating their Sri Lankan names and adopting the Australian way of life, Navaranjini and Bharat reject this chauvinism and adopt Jean and Barry Mundy. Barry's grandfather's papers are being archived as part of their ongoing effort to preserve and enjoy their family history.

They then take a lengthy trip back to Sri Lanka, where Barry accepts a job at the university. However, their time in Australia has helped them to recognise the inadequacies of Sri Lanka's bureaucracy and the, intimidating complication of its political system.

The sense of home has now changed and they yearn to get back to Australia.

I bought this book while travelling in India from someone selling a few books on the side of the road. Loved it, passed it around, it fell apart and got lost. Am now rereading it. Loving it again.
