Part of the Annie's Attic Mystery series by Marlene Chase. The Hook and Needle Club of Stony Creek,Maine hunt for the identity of puzzling photographs found in the attic of a old home left to widow Annie Dawson, the owner of A STITCH in TIME, by her late grandmother.
Marlene Chase’s The Photo Album (Annie’s Attic Mysteries #3) is my introduction to this series. I must admit with its setting in The Great State Of Maine-Stony Point, a coastline community not far from Portland, ME. I spent many summer happy hours in Maine-not that far from ‘Stony Point’. Thus, reading a mystery based on a find in an old attic in Maine, I found myself right at home. I had in my bathroom when I was growing up, a large shelved closet which my brothers referred to as ‘my nostalgia closet’. I still have all those lovely finds so checking out old attic finds in Maine seems to fit for me. This author besides developing a good mystery wrote some thought provoking lines such as “Loneliness is a stalker, she knew, with no laws to circumvent its crimes.” This line refers to the protagonist, a recent widow who inherits her grandmother’s old Victorian home, Grey Gables, where as a girl, Annie, spent glorious summers with her grandmother in Stony Point, ME. There are also creative examples of this author’s writing. “A sobering sense of loss blew through him like a blast of wind through a tunnel.” and “..eyes bright as blueberries wet with rain.” Cleverly descriptive and wet blueberries in Maine-perfect! I certainly will be reading more of Annie’s Attic Mysteries as I easily pictured myself back in Maine with this one. 4 stars.
This book was a good read. I would recommend reading Annie Attic Mysteries. In this book Annie finds a photo album in her grand mother’s attic. The mystery is to find out who the boy in the photo is. Along the way you find out about a lost love from the past and a crime committed and has come back to haunt stony point residents. The town comes together to help those involved and shows the town sticking together to support and help each other out. Cute thing is how a feline can be a great judge of charater.
What a good book. The first time a dark mysterious stranger has been introduced into the story line. Kept me on the edge of my seat all the way. And it is nice we are learning more about her friends as the series continues. Can't wait to read the next one!
Annie Dawson is searching through the treasures in her grandmother's estate when she comes across some old photos. In many, there is a young man caught in the background. Annie knows that her friends are withholding information about the man, and she is determined to get them to talk. Who is this strange person? What happened to him? As Annie uncovers this mystery, she unknowingly puts her friends and herself in a very dangerous situation. The Photo Album is a thrilling novel, another great read from the Annie's Attic Mysteries series. Again, this book is by a new author. Though, rest assured, Marlene Chase does a wonderful job of continuing the series. Like the other books in this series, I would recommend The Photo Album to young adults and older. Again, some might find the series a bit feminine, considering many of the characters are women. Yet, don't let this discourage you from reading this amazing series. The novels are inexpensive, and can be found on many different online stores. So... what are you waiting for? Go give it a try!
This is one of a series of "Annie's Attic Mysteries", books by a variety of authors using the same central character, Annie Dawson, who has inherited a wonderful Victorian home from her beloved grandmother. I read "The Photo Album" first, not knowing it was #3 in the series, but it really doesn't matter.
If you like light mysteries with little or no blood and gore, these stories fill the bill. In "The Photo Album", Annie finds an old album and notices an unfamiliar young man in several of the photos. Her search for his identity and how he fit into the seaside community of Stony Point, Maine, is a good read, especially for a hot Central California summer day.
Annie Dawson has inherited her grandmother's historic home in the small coastal town of Stoney Point, Maine. She's intrigued when a handsome stranger arrives in town, offering to help her with some renovation projects. Annie is also trying to discover the identity of a boy who's in the background of several pictures in an old photo album she found in the attic.
This is an enjoyable installment in the "Annie's Attic Mysteries" series, where each book in the series is written by a different author. (My mom bought this book at a library book sale that we went to together and passed it on to me after reading and enjoying it herself. Thanks Mom!)
While enjoyable reading this story does NOT track well...when she first finds the album she is looking at pictures of her and Alice when they were young and he was in the background of those pictures. Later in the story she says that she was no longer coming to spend summers there when the pictures would have been taken. Also if you are reading them in sequence the 4th of July was already celebrated in the first book. This is book number three and she says it is coming up. Otherwise it is a good enough read.... I love Annie's Attic Mysteries and this is my second time reading through the series.
This is my third Annie's book. This one took me 1.5 days to finish. I was so enthralled in the story that I couldn't wait to see what the ending was. So far, all three authors in books 1, 2 and 3 were great but a little different. I like this concept with the story continuing with different authors. I purchased all 30 books with my sister. She reads them and I get to keep them....nice! Kudos to Marlene chase for an unforgettable story.
A cozy mystery set in Stony Point, Maine. When Annie inherits Grey Gables after her grandmother's death, she sets out on a mission to discover who the mysterious looking young boy found in the background of a few of their family and friend photos taken in Stony Point back 20 years.
It turned out to be 16 year old Cagney Torrez. He was found dead. His body had been found floating in the bay.
Cagney hung woth a rough crowd back in the day and had stolen a piece of jewelry and gave it to Annie's niece when they were young. The thief, Dorian Jones, came back to the island to retrieve the jewels, which he had hid in Annie's grandma's attic 20 years earlier. He claimed to have worked as a handyman working his way through college back in the day. But, he's still looking for that one necklace.
[Hmmm...I didn't finish taking notes on this book.]
This was my favorite book in this serious thus far! It had a lot more action and anticipation than the previous ones, but keeping to the “cozy” mystery feel!
I would argue the mystery did not last very long, it was pretty obvious and also confirmed pretty early on- so not much guess work on the readers part.
#3 in the Annie's Attic series. This is a good light mystery. I am fascinated by the fact that so far each of the books in this series is written by a different author but still maintains the integrity and continuity of the characters and setting.
I think I found a new Cozy Mystery series. I read this one out of order but that is okay. I feel like I found a new group of crafting friends to take an adventure with. The story kept moving and the flashbacks transitioned smoothly into the story. A good little read.
I really enjoy this cozy series. They're definitely not my favorite reads but a nice easy read when I just want to get lost in a book. I will definitely continue to follow this series.
This book has 240 pages and I was bored for the first 150. The last 90 were thrilling and kept my attention. It took me over a month to read this book because I avoided it.
