Creating Keepsakes magazine's lettering expert Becky Higgins gives easy five-step instructions for making 50 alphabets and hundreds of variations that will add a personal touch to scrapbooks—and to cards, invitations, and signs. This book is a long-lasting scrapbooking favorite!
I love this book. It was the first book I got (in 2002) on creative lettering and it really opened up a new world to me. I still refer to it every now & then.
The lettering it shows you how to do is pretty basic stuff but it is the foundation you need. There are 50 alphabets you can use in art journaling, scrapbooking and many other crafty doings.
The book starts with the basics and design ideas. From there it goes into the alphabets that are divided by style: basics, fancy, festive, funky, seasons, and themes. Most fonts have a double page spread. The first page tells you in a few paragraphs how to draw the font and shows several example uses. The facing page is a full page of the alphabet described. At the back it has a patten guide with a few pages of sample patterns you can fill your letters with. The book concludes with a helpful index.
The book is a hard cover approximately 8 1/2" by 11". Full gloss pages.
Those of us with limited doodling ability really, really appreciate this book. I still use it often and love what it brings to my pages, cards, notes, etc.
Very cool book if you are interested in different lettering styles for scrapbooking, card-making, signs for yard sales or school events, etc. I had it in with my scrapbooking supplies for a while but never really the ideas much. When I went through a decluttering stage I gave it away (copied my favorite pages first).
