The story is a bit dull when it starts off with Yuya and Kyoshiro. But as you progress, the plot thickens and newly cast members introduced piece by piece make this manga unique and a bit of a masterpiece. There are two main story lines: 1- Yuya is looking for the man that killed her brother and 2- Kyo is searching for his true body to exact his revenge. Every other plot in between just adds fuel to the story and lets you learn of the diverse background of many characters, friends or foes. The story itself was captivating and it is a shame that many people know of this series.

The art style refined over time, giving the battle scenes flaws execution. The each character had their own torments and demons to deal with but I would have to say that certain individuals needed more evolution or better backstory. The end was well received and left no stone unturned.

I have watched the anime adaptation and I don't recommend it. It doesn't do it justice.

Do I recommend:

Some of the tricks these characters are doing are getting so out of hand ridiculous. At this point I think the best thing about the series is that Yuya is just some random person who ended up in all this mess of a plot. She isn't some great samurai/ninja/warrior, she doesn't have any fancy title with a number, and she doesn't have any supernatural powers (that we know of yet).

This is perhaps one of the only series where everybody winds up happy to die.

Le retour de Fubuki et Ichigi et leur histoire digne d'un yaoi - je les avais complètement oubliés

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Fubuki, you fargin' arsehole!! Damn you! Damn you straight to hell!

Samurai Deeper Kyo, Volume 20 left me feeling battered and bruised from the whirlwind of emotions. One second, I was feeling jubilant and then the next moment my heart sank to the pit of my stomach. This volume was rough, but so enthralling.

Oh, Yukimura, my favorite rascal, whatever are you up to? I have been missing Yukimura being with the rest of the gang, and eagerly await him meeting up with them again. Although, I have no idea what Yukimura has up his sleeves, it will undoubtedly be exciting.

The emotionally charged battle between Benitora and Taihaku comes to an epic end. They both look worse for wear but it is one of the best battles of the series thus far. I just really love how truly good both these characters are.

I absolutely love Benitora and Sasuke together!
description

After the battle with Benitora, Taihaku tells Yuya that he was friends with her brother Nozomu. He reveals to her that her brother was not her true brother, but that he adopted her when she was an infant. Nozomu was a threat to the Mibu and died by their hands. Taihaku also discloses that Nozomu's true sister is Sakuya, the Miko shaman.

And then Fubuki kills sweet Taihaku. Fucking bastard. This mofo better be going down!

Later in the volume, Fubuki deceives Shinrei about Taihaku's death, and sends him off to finish Kyo. We then meet Hishigi, one of the Four Elders (Holy crap! Is anyone else having a hard time keeping track of the Four Emperors, Five Stars, Four Elders, Five Gates, Four...Five...Four...?), who makes it clear that Fubuki is only using Shinrei as a pawn in his game. Man, I hope this Fubuki dies a very slow death.

The gut-wrenching ending with Hotaru and Taihaku had my emotions on a roller-coaster. I cannot wait for the next volume. I have a sneaking suspicion Hotaru and Shinrei are about to have one helluva an epic battle.

Today’s review is on Samurai Deeper Kyo volume 20 by Akimine Kamijyo. It is published by Tokyopop. As it is the 20th volume in the series you need to have read the previous volumes in order to understand what is going on. The cover has the group with Kyo in the center and everyone is looking cool. There some language, no sexuality, and lots of violence in this manga. The intended reader is someone who has read all the previous volumes, loves samurai manga, and cool fighting. The plot is told using third person god point of view with character's thoughts added for plot and character development. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From back of the book- Benitora and Taihaku face off at the Fourth Gage- Benitora’s dedication to protecting his friends just might give him the edge he needs to kill Taihaku. But when Taihaku gives a devastating revelation to Yuya, her life and Sakuya’s will change… forever.

Review- Benitora and Taihaku’s fight is the main arc of this volume but Yuya has her moments too. The whole reason she is with this motley group is because Kyo and Kyoshiro know something about her brother; namely who killed him. Taihaku knows more than that. He knows who her brother really was and who his real sister is. In addition he has a message from him to give Yuya- Live happily and do not avenge my death. Well Yuya does not take any of this very well and I do not blame her. Like her I too am tired of the Mibu thinking they have the right to destroy or save anyone they want. Benitora wins but then Taihaku is killed by another of the Five stars and Shinrei thinks that Kyo and company are the ones who did it. All the layers of lies and manipulation that the Mibu have is truly impressive. More fighting and Yuya’s life still hangs in the balance.

I give this manga a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
