The Magic Shield: A Manual of Defense Against the Dark Arts

Rate this book
Author and expert on metaphysical subjects Francis Melville asserts that psychic attack, the practice of the dark arts, is more common than many of us would like to believe. Often taking the form of nightmares, illness, and accidents, it is practiced on unwary subjects by personal enemies who have turned bitter as a result of envy, hatred, resentment, or spite. He divides his latest book into two parts. Part One explains the basic principles behind all forms of destructive magic, and Part Two discusses ways in which readers can protect themselves against negative influences, whether deliberate or unconscious. Several destructive magic arts are described in detail, including Satanism, Black Lodges, Voudou, and Demonic Possession, among others. Recommended protections described by the author include specific physical exercises, the making of amulets and talismans, angelic invocation, recital of mantras and meditations, and exorcism. This fascinating study is printed in two colors and supplemented with more than 250 illustrations.

Good introductory information. Not too advanced, but easy, practical, and effective.

The book had great information but some chapters seem to be unfinished and just dropped off. I love the hard cover and aged feeling of the book.

This book is a defense against the dark arts book. When I got divorced, my ex got all the electronics and I got all the books that we had shared--this was one of them. I read it afterwards and it's not a book that I personally would recommend to anyone really. It's very interesting though and there is a lot of interesting mythology in here. It isn't something I personally believe or practice, but if you're interested in reading mythologies and the different ways cultures have defended themselves against different mythological things, this would be a good book for you.

I read this book on a plane ride to Arizona, and find myself browsing its pages even after having finished. The design of the book is adorable, with old fashioned-looking pages and a text-book format. It feels like it'd be a book that Harry Potter would take to Hogwarts, but this book is not fiction. It's a good resource whether or not you believe in the occult.

The only drawback to this book is that font is really small!
