Presents more than four hundred recipes for low-calorie dishes, providing nutritional information for each item, a six-week meal plan, and advice on exercise and portion control.
I found this in the free bin at 2nd and Charles last year and I finally made something from it - Stir-fried Walnut Chicken. It was very good! There's other recipes in here I want to try, too.
I'm not much for artificial sweeteners so not really thinking of diet soda as a "free food" as the intro said. Also, why are tomatoes and pickles unlimited free food but salsa is limited to 1/4 cup per day? (Seriously, why even bother?) and why limit relish?
Anyway, there's a 6 week diet plan in here. Sounds good, but how can I get up every morning and fix eggs or pancakes or frittatas or enchiladas then go to work? And make all those lunches at home to eat at work like pizza, salmon, and stew? Then come home from work and make all those home cooked meals? I decided that's the rich housewife diet. I'm sticking to cereal and Lean Cuisine.
Some good stuff in here, though not a health food recipe book.
The Breakfast section was disappointing. The lunch section is a fantastic collection of hearty and healthy soups. I am not a fan of fat reduced or fat free dairy products. I would rather just use less. To their credit most of the dinner recipes saved calories by using leaner cuts of meat and smaller portions. Fill up on those vegetables and hearty soups. The dessert section was mild disappointing as many relied on artificially sweetened replacements. I wish they had included recipes using stevia, a natural substitute for sugar. I did like that they had several recipes that used applesauce to replace the oil. The bottom line, there are over 400 recipes. The chances are good that you will find a reduced calorie version of your favorite comfort food. At the very least you will come away with some ideas and how to do it.
I was very impressed with this cookbook. I have tired these diet cookbooks before and I was not able to find any good recipes, but I found a lot of recipes in this one. The first of the book is full of tips and ideas on who to lose weight. There is even a 6 week daily planner to help you get started filled with foods that are in this book. I cooked a few recipes this weekend and my family loved them. I found them easy to cook and I also loved that just about every recipe has a picture. The only downside was of course, was there isn’t a lot of desserts, should have known LOL. Every recipe has the calories and the nutrition facts so you just can’t go wrong if you follow them.
