The side story at the very end is the only thing that bumped this up to 3 stars. I would kill for more Weisen and Angel.

Ignore the unfortunate title (pretty much any title with the word “wind” in it is bound to connote some measure of risibility). What we have here is an episodic unfolding of General Sai’s rise to power from being a lowly soldier. (This is meant to be a companion to White Guardian and so may elicit a measure of confusion for anyone who hasn’t read the other work.)
The story starts with the general already a seasoned and hard-working man of action. He comes off as solid, calm, steadfast and intelligent—a sharp contrast to the brash, young, light-hearted prince who is infatuated with him. The story then winds its way backward to before the two men met as we see Sei’s…education at the hands of gentlemen older than himself.
Here is a very different Sei, one given to rash, impulsive behavior, whose beauty, outspoken nature and inner vulnerability attracts very dissimilar men. It’s tough to reconcile this impetuous, naïve youth with the confident older man he becomes. But Sei’s inherent sweet nature makes it worth reading—after all, he has hot sex (as seme and uke) with different men who find him utterly adorable!
If you haven’t read White Guardian, this book will encourage you to do so. If you have, this happily may fill in a few blanks.

This sequel to "White Guardian" is actually more of a prequel since readers are taken to the past for the story. Though not as steamy as book one, this is hard yaoi with explicit sex. The historical setting and story make for a very enjoyable read. Highly recommended!
