After the upheaval of the last few years, we might have been forgiven for thinking that 2022 would be a more low-key affair, as we emerged blinking from the pandemic. No such luck. The Russian invasion of Ukraine; the ousting of Boris Johnson; the long-expected yet still shocking death of the Queen – they have all added up to yet another year of high drama.
The Guardian’s finest writers were on hand, to provoke and probe, elucidate and entertain, providing a trusted and independent source of information in an uncertain world. From first-class war reportage to unflinching analysis of the cost of living crisis, via Tim Dowling’s tortoise and Charlotte Higgins’ first trip to Glastonbury, this is another memorable collection of the best journalism from the past 12 months.

Another great collection of journalistic pieces from The Guardian. I particularly enjoyed catching up with the Shane MacGowan interview. Having the opportunity to look back on the past year - at a distance - helps as a reminder of what has happened, and the events and places that we, collectively, have travelled. Exposure to the many varied writing styles is an added bonus.
