What cost will a man bear to keep his paradise, and his love, safe? When Charlie, an outlaw from modern life, wakes up to find himself in the last ice age, his pockets are empty save for a pack of cigarettes and a lighter.
Adopted by a tribe who find him on the freezing tundra, he is for the first time in his life part of a family. He falls in love with the chief’s daughter, but she is already the object of a murderous obsession by a man who doesn't take kindly to Charlie's interest.
A violent revenge is plotted. If Charlie is to save the tribe, he must put aside his own selfish interests. And with Charlie, that’s easier said than done. . .
Not my genre, but TOLD to read it by a friend. Amazing. . . Starts with a guy who is pretty darn unlikeable, but the writing is so good, the story so well told, that you end up completely on the side of the guy as you see him grow into his character. So well crafted. Great adventure/time-travel/coming-of-age/ save-the-world-type stuff. Didn't know much about the ice age but now I kind of wish I could visit.
Charlie has landed in the Ice Age. He’s no hero. And his language is distinctly colorful. But he’d rather like to survive. And just possibly, modern man might have something to teach those Ice Age natives, if only he could learn their language first.
Rewind combines evocative descriptions, convincing fish-out-of-water depictions, and an unreliable narrator in a first-person, present tense story of a very tense past. And it works. The protagonist becomes very real to the reader. His predicament holds the reader’s interest. And his adventures propel the story forward convincingly.
I’d be interested to read more of this series, and see how Charlie and his world might change.
Disclosure: I was intrigued by the premise and the book does not disappoint.
Rewind is an amazing time travel adventure (or perhaps misadventure is more accurate). Charlie is the protagonist and narrator of his life. I loved the story and except for the overabundance of profanity I would have given it 5 stars. The characters are realistic and the world they inhabit is easy to visualize.
Disclaimer: I received this ebook from the author and this is my honest and unsolicited opinion.
Interesting time travel. Well developed and captivating story. I do need to know more about why the scientist is doing this and what has happened to the others who have been sent back. Would read the next book when it arrives.
This was a different, but good story. What would you do if that happened to you?? I can’t wait for the next book to come out,to see what happens.I recommend this book to anyone who wants to see life different!
A great start for what promises to be a good series.
An eminently unlikeable protagonist suddenly finds himself in the ice-age. Luck helps him survive, overcome his nasty habits and make himself useful to the tribe which adopts him.
Rewind I, Charlie #1 Sci-Fi Christopher Barnard ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
The synopsis of this book grabbed my attention and as soon as I started read it, I was hooked.
The pacing was just right and the world building was great! I loved how Charlie was thrown straight into the deep end.
The characters were well developed and very likeable. Charlie had a great sense of humor and I really liked seeing the English insults and slang 😂.
There were times that I cringed at Charlie for making the wrong choices or saying the wrong things and there were definitely things that I found emotional.
I really liked the writing style. It was written as if Charlie was recounting everything that happened or recalling it all for diary entries etc.
I have to say that watching Charlie stumble about trying to do something as simple as boil water by finding clay, making and firing a jug and fixing it above burning wood, made me really appreciate what we have and the things we take for granted.
The only things that could've been explained better were: 1) where did the other people that signed up to (accidentally) timetravel end up and 2) how did Raka come into contact with the other tribe in the first place.
Chewing the bread that other people have chewed has no taste. Sending a 21s central man back to the human beginning is no creation and discovery. Reading this story is like a student cheating in an exam, having all the answers on paper when writing responses. However, the author is very good at story telling, using the known facts of slave trading, pottery, harvesting honey from bees to describing the human beginnings.
Really good start , as usual , anyone who goes back in time is not an overweight accountant who has no idea about life outside a balance sheet...but someone who has read a lot, can sail, remembers the basics about ...you get the idea . But I enjoyed the start then it turned into a love story ...mate , your thousands of years in the past , and you want to settle down and have kids ? Let's see what happens next to prehistoric Mr D'Arcy.
I almost didn't download this book based on the reviews. I'm glad I did. I thought it was well written, knowledgeable about the terrain, different, it also has likable characters and perspective. I really enjoyed it.
A good book, better than expected. We are shown cave men who are smarter and more developed than expected. I would say more human than expected. The author should brush up on English and proof-reading. He used “prostate” for “prostrate” and other similar errors.
I finally finished this book,it was really good,I loved the writing it was just like you think!! I just had so many interuptions but knew that at some point I would finsh this because i really liked it and think that i was meant to read it.
Would have been 5 stars if it wasn’t for the excessive profanity and found language in the first half of the book. The MC is his own worst enemy, which he has to overcome to survive. The story gets better with an unexpected development…anymore would be a spoiler. After a rough start there is an exciting ending, with the possibility of more books in the series
