It’s a new day in Australia. Let’s follow the sun!
Wake up with kookaburras on Arakwal Country (Byron Bay), bask with wombats on ??wulinantikala (Cradle Mountain), ?watch black and red cockatoos flying over A??nangu Country, scratch the Daintree Rainforest floor with cassowaries on Kuku Yalanji Country, and go to sleep as quokkas wake up on Whadjuk Noongar Country (Rottnest Island).
The Illustration's are just colourful enough, the font is brilliant and the locations are amazing, and even the texture on the cover sets it apart from the other books on the CBCA shortlist for 2023. Australian Illustration BRENTOS, has done an amazing job with this beautiful book. It is also fantastic to read out loud to my story time audience, pointing to places on a map of Australia, and practicing saying the name of the Traditional Land Owners of those places. As I am also on Wadawurrung Country, I got a little thrill being able to share that with the children. Not only does the book normalise acknowledging traditional owners, but it shares a little about many places around Australia in a really fun way. It feels like you have been on a holiday by the time you get to the end!
A glorious colour-filled journey from sun up to sun down through a spectacular array of landscapes and Australian locations, each perfectly hued in colours that match the time of day as well as the environment peculiar to that place. Snippets of intriguing information about the inhabitants and their habits according to the time of day provide a delicious all-round reading experience. These books by dual creators, Bentos make gorgeous gifts and bookshelf treasures. Highly recommended.
