I took a Sociology class from Professor Oliner at Humboldt State in the late 1980s. He was an amazing professor. I read this book back then and recommend it. Rereading it as an older person with more life experiences was more impactful. What he had to endure at such a young age helps explain his compassion lecturing on behavior in sociology.
I have read this book before, a long time ago. Sam Oliner was a local and a friend of a friend of mine, another man who'd survived the Holocaust as a child. In my friend's case, he'd been rescued and hidden by some French people. I find Restless Memories quite a gripping book and an astounding picture of the resilience and resourcefulness of a child who was left on his own after all his family was murdered. I was motivated to read it again due to the current situation in Israel. It's a brutal reminder of why that country exists and how tenacious its people are.
