War, poverty, environmental disasters, and more have brought the planet to a tipping point. In our personal lives, many of us carry deep-seated fear, resentment, anger, and even hatred for others and ourselves.
Since ancient times, Toltec shamans have taught that the root of all this discord can be found in the human mind and what they called its addiction to suffering . They have also taught that the time will come when we must choose to either break free from this addiction or pay the ultimate price.
According to Toltec Shaman don Jose Ruiz, that time is now, and the change that is needed can only come from within.
In The Shaman’s Path to Freedom , Ruiz will teach you how to find and claim your own personal freedom, one based on unconditional love for yourself and others, and in doing so break your mind’s addiction to suffering. By walking this path, you can live a life of peace and harmony within yourself, which is the most important thing you can do to bring about the change that is needed in the world.
Filled with Toltec practices for establishing personal freedom, The Shaman’s Path to Freedom is don Jose Ruiz’s most personal and radical book yet, guaranteed to thrill both new readers and longtime fans.
A nice small book. Filled with 10 chapters on self reflection and self help. It was a nice touch in reading some of the author's past experiences. This is a good book for anyone in recovery, or anyone that might feel lost.
This book is a miracle. Having had the opportunity to study with Jose within various retreats, and apprenticeship programs, I was dubious about whether a book could truly capture the sheer magic of the man. Jose Ruiz in person is an open channel. Listening to him is like listening to great jazz - always unexpected and never quite the same.
How do you capture that in a book?
Well, apparently you write something so dense in wisdom and yet so light in terms of overall length (200 pages) that you can read it frequently throughout your life and yet always discover something unexpected.
His dad and author of The Four Agreements, Miguel Sr., talks about how that book is always different each time you read it because you are different each time you pick it up. This book is much the same.
I cannot recommend this read highly enough. If the word “Shaman” gives you any pause because of some of the New Age baggage it can carry don’t let that worry you. The author is, after all, the co-author of The Fifth Agreement whose central tenet is “be skeptical, but learn to listen.” Never fear, this book is as accessible as The Four Agreements and I believe will become a classic book of wisdom in its own right.
The Shaman's Path to Freedom: A Toltec Wisdom Book is a transformative guide to self-discovery and spiritual awakening. Drawing on ancient Toltec wisdom, the book offers profound insights into breaking free from limiting beliefs and embracing true personal power.
The author’s clear and engaging writing makes complex spiritual concepts accessible, guiding readers toward inner liberation. With practical exercises and timeless wisdom, this book is inspiring and deeply empowering.
Perfect for seekers of personal growth and higher consciousness, it is a must-read for anyone looking to cultivate freedom, awareness, and a deeper connection to life.
I was half way through this book when a friend messaged me suggesting a book they thought I would like. It was The Four Agreements written by Don Jose Ruiz's Dad! A coincidence? I don't think so. I think many of us are waking up to the realisation that we can live lives free from suffering.
Absolutely phenomenal Love-based material that really brings the core of shamanism, Love into the foreground. Highly relatable as don Jose is one of the new cycle shamans and, like myself, is into heavy metal, self-expression, giving Love to the shadows within ourselves. One book everyone should read to understand more about what is at the core of shamanism.
In order to be free, you must give yourself permission to suffer (and other things too). It means, accepting life as it is, not trying to change what you cannot change.
Good message.

I took my time reading this one and loving the gems it shared on almost every page. All I can say is read it! After you do, you will never be the same.
I try to read a few self help books a year and saw this at the library and thought Id give it a shot. This is very much in the same vein as a buddhist/zen self help books and the philosophy and advise follows this so no real new information for me but it was presented in a bit of different light and its never a bad thing to see inights said in a different way.
I liked it. A good self help book for those inclined for this message.
'The Shaman's Path to Freedom' written by don José Ruiz
This is a book I've had for some time, re-reading and dipping in and out as needed. I like this author, he has some interesting and useful info and several practice exercises for working with and calming the mind, releasing trauma, etc, ancestral knowledge passed along by his family in the ancient Toltec traditions. Good traditional trainings!
An incredible spiritual gem!!! There is so much knowledge in this book I think everyone should read it! It is something I will read time and time again and I know each time it will have a different profound meaning for my life.
