I love this book! A highly serious and traditional, yet pure honest light and heart-full approach to yoga.
I attended the Scandinavian school for Yoga and Meditation for several years, founded by swami Janakananda. I always felt their approach to yoga was fully spiritualy devoted yet very down to Earth and I'm happy that became my entrance to yoga. Down to Earth is a good place to start ;)
I highly recomend this book to anyone interested in yoga, wether you are beginner or advanced you will find something in it to inspire you and help you go further!

This is one of those books that you can tell was written in the 70s. I do suggest it if you find it used. It gives quite a good review of different forms of yoga, philosophy and practices.

The only book you'll ever need on yoga. After that, it's time to seek a teacher :)

Swami Janakananda has laid out clearly the ancient practice of Tantra for use in daily life in our own time. The writing style is so clearly descriptive and easy to interpret that anyone can practice with this thorough guide book.

Not to mention, the book can be followed up with courses in Sweden (and quite a few other sister school's around Europe), which has courses throughout the whole year, guided by teachers who are required to have at least 4 years of full-time training (usually 6), a practice which is more closely following the old ways of yoga, than what you typically find in a yoga class these days. This is yoga which is totally true to the traditional yoga, while incorporating modern scientific research.

Find in here asana programs, yoga nidra, meditation techniques, pranayama, tratak, the Tantric sexual ritual and lots of useful information.

It's also available in many other languages.
