But not every world ends with a bang. For some, the apocalypse comes quietly, no louder than a bird's dawn chorus, or the gentle burbling of a fish tank. Then again, for those who like certitude in their cataclysms, you can't go wrong with the chthonic grinding of an unseen earth-mover, or the clang of sharpened bronze against sweaty steel.
