Definitely more than 99 thoughts in this book! The people at DYM loves their lists for sure.
A decent introduction/reference for small group leaders. It definitely assumes a certain way of doing small groups, but it can be contextualized. At it’s heart is relational ministry, and that’s it’s strength. It’s also very readable (which is helpful for those leaders who despise reading).
It’s weaknesses are it’s scattershot, loosely organized structure and it’s surface level content. Not that it addresses superficial content, but it is limited in the extent it can go into detail on important topics and questions.
A helpful resource to refresh or inspire yourself on what it means to be a leader in youth ministry, and a good resource to hand to a leadership team.
Great book full of helpful thoughts! Small groups in my ministry setting are different than what’s assumed in this book (our small groups are part of our weekly large group gathering instead of their own program), but the tips, encouragements, and strategies can often carry over anyway. I’m considering using this as a Christmas gift to resource our middle school and high school small group leaders
This was an enjoyable quick read and probably accomplished its purpose of encouraging and inspiring me as a youth leader of a small group. It could probably have been written a little more tightly and said everything in a lot less words, but the format was fun to read. While none of the information was really new, I think we all need to be reminded of the principles contained in this little volume, which could probably be summed up with the idea that we need to focus on "prayer and care".
