Joan Grant: Winged Pharaoh

Rate this book
Miss Fuller's study of the British author Joan Grant is based both on her observations of Miss Grant while a guest at her home during a long weekend in 1944 and on an extensive investigation of her literary works and life. Was John Grant's Winged Pharaoh historical fiction or the record of true memory? Miss Fuller attempts to unlock the mystery through her knowledge of Egyptian hieroglyphics.

This is a fascinating and accurate portrayal of life in ancient Egypt, told through the eyes of a young girl who is the daughter of a pharoah as she grows up, is initiated into the ancient mysteries, and eventually becomes a pharoah herself, alongside her brother. The religious aspects in particular are authentic. The author brings to life the details of this time so vividly that it is as though she is writing about a past life of her own; and I suspect she is.
